Player Stats now available

Post by Mwh65 »

Hi to all,

PGLS is pleased to announce the implementation of full statistical coverage of its strokeplay events. The statistics will be an ongoing element of PGLS which updates on a weekly basis. Data captured is taken on a round-by-round basis, meaning that statistics will be taken, regardless of completing a tournament event or not. Events are collected into monthly groups, based on the start date of the event, so an event beginning in March but ending in April is part of March stats.

Stats can be viewed in two ways:

By following the link on the menu above to ...

http://pgls.golfladders.co.uk/forums/player_stats.php

or, by looking at your own profile page or that of any player, which will show you their personal stats and will give you access to the full stats profile.

Data can be viewed to see the top five players in each category, as a presentation of the whole playing membership in one table (FULL RANKING), and on a personal basis to see your own stats in isolation (PERSONAL RANKING).

All data can be viewed both across the whole playing group, and also on an ability level basis. All data is also sortable using the arrow at the top of each column, allowing you to view the data in the most flexible ways possible.

A minimum data threshold of 72 holes completed has been set to give the statistics an appropriate focus.
_________________________________________________________________________________

The following data is available:

STROKE AVERAGE - Defined as the average number of strokes taken per round for the PGA 9, PGA 18, Stableford 9 and PGLS Open events (PGLS Open from April onwards)

DRIVING ACCURACY - Defined as both an average number of fairways per round and a percentage of fairways hit

DRIVING DISTANCE - Defined as an average number of yards per drive. Drives are measured on all holes where fairway is target per round, regardless of gradient or wind. The drives are measured at the point they come to rest on the fairway. Average Longest Drive is the total of all longest drive measurements across the year, represented as an average. Longest Drive is the record drive made over the course of the complete stats record

GREENS IN REGULATION - Defined as both an average number of greens per round and a percentage of greens hit. A green in regulation is defined as the number of shots that a player should take to reach the putting surface on any given hole, being one for Par 3's, two for Par 4's and three for Par 5's

PUTTS PER GREEN IN REGULATION - Defined as both the average number of putts taken per green in regulation and the average number of putts taken per round on greens that are hit in regulation. By doubling the greens per round figure and thereby assuming two putts on each green in regulation, we can then subtract the GIR putts per round figure from this total to infer the number of strokes under par the player will be per round from the greens hit in regulation

AVERAGE PUTTS - Defined as the average number of putts taken per round. The use of the putter from off the green does not constitute a putt as far as the statistics are concerned

SAND SAVES - Defined as a percentage of times which a player takes two strokes or less to complete a hole after visiting a greenside bunker, regardless of the score on that hole

SCRAMBLES - The frequency, expressed as a percentage to one decimal place, of the player scoring par or better on holes where the player missed the Green in Regulation.
KEY :
Average SPR - Average scrambles per round,
Ave. Missed GPR - Average missed greens per round,
Total Missed GIR - Total missed Greens in Regulation,
Total Scrambles - Number of times par or better scored from a missed green in regulation

AVERAGE ONE-PUTTS / SCORING STROKE STATS - Defined as the average number of "single-putts" per round, number of chip-ins, and scoring stats for number of Holes-in-one, Albatrosses, Eagles, Birdies, Pars, Bogeys, Double Bogeys and worse
__________________________________________________________________________________

The data is available for PGA9, PGA18 and Stableford events back to the start of 2017. PGLS Open will be included in stats as from this month.

Data is able to be viewed 'Overall', giving you your total for the championship year, or on a monthly basis, allowing you to track how you compare month-to-month.

We hope that our members find the inclusion of statistics of interest and a positive tool to help analysis of their game and where they are playing well, as well as where they may seek to improve to raise their competition to ever-higher standards.

Another fantastic addition for us number nerds!! appreciate the time and effort this has taken to implement and check.

I hope to add some further bits based on this data.. for fun too!
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

Awesome stuff - well done!

Next step is to consider the time dimension so a graph can be made for reviewing trends. But I will dust off my copy of Excel especially for that purpose!

Just a question on driving stats. Not sure how this can be but my longest average drive is 232.86? How is that calculated? Most of my longest drives are over 300. I looked at the overall ranking in pro and these numbers are all over the place. The top two pros in avg. distance (fairway) are lower than my longest average drive. As I read in the explanation it says "Average Longest Drive is the total of all longest drive measurements across the year, represented as an average" , so wouldn't that generally be more than your average drive? Might check into the calculation.

Looks as if the first two column names (after "Level") are switched...
