Apologies, but PGLS was down between midnight GMT and 10:40am GMT today.

Investigating as to the reason why.

I can confirm it is to do with specific updates applied to the FreeBSD operating system. However not applying the updates would be the wrong thing to do. The fix is to just restart the affected service.

Frustratingly the downtime starts at midnight GMT/BST and I don't realise it's down until the following morning.

Do you get any prior warning this is going to happen? Don't remember this happening two months in a row.

No, the specific update causing this is released as and when it's needed. I duly install it and restart it as required. However the last 3 times have seen the issue re-occur at midnight when serving web pages stops working. This only happens once and doesn't re-surface until the next update of said service.

I guess downtimes can be a little frustrating at times but lets not forget all the great work that Mark and the other administrators do all the time to give us this great site with all it's fabulous selection of tournaments to play.
