Order of Merit points

Sorry if this is in thr rules somewhere and I've missed it...............but, just for interest, how are Order of Merit points allocated to players who have the same number of points ? I'm probably being a bit thick but I've looked through the archives and I can't work it out ! I thought the total number of strokes taken might be the tie-breaker but that doesn't seem to be the case. Sometimes the person with fewer strokes gets more points: sometimes they get less. I then wondered whether "best back 9" was the tie-breaker but that doesn't seem to be it either. I'm clearly missing something but I've no idea what !

Hi Dave,
I'll try to explain:
If 2 players are tied, let's take 2nd and 3rd for example. the points you would get for 2nd are added to the points you would get for 3rd and divided by 2. If 3 are tied say, 2nd, 3rd & 4th, you add points for 2nd, 3rd & 4th and divide by 3...etc, etc, etc.
Hope that helps.
Andy

The 'Order of Merit' points should of been evenly split amongst the players on the same points only per PGLS Level as Andy stated above. The strokes taken bear no relevance in the ordering.
However on closer examination this seems not to have been the case, which I guess is why you were quite rightly querying it ...

In most cases the even split amongst all players tied has functioned correctly. However as is the case in your 10th place tie with OnyxCarp it has gone horribly wrong.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention and I will now be looking to correct any errors in time for the close down next Thursday.

Hi Mark
Thanks for the explanation. I was clearly over-complicating the scoring ! Incidentally, the bug doesn't appear to affect only people with the same number of stableford points - LZ Paul and Grooch got the same OoM points even though Paul scored 73 to Grooch's 71.

Yes agreed, which tends to suggest there is some connection with the "strokes taken" that should not be present as they both have the same number of them.
