PGLS Club Talk

Welcome to the first Perfect Golf Ladder System (PGLS) Club Talk a weekly news round up with the emphasis on club activityâs. I hope to show that PGLS is not just a collection of tournaments that can be played either solo or with other players but a place where players can meet, chat, and compete against each other, where friendships are made and legends are formed.
In a week when Jordan Spieth won the British Open at Royal Birkdale PGLS ran its own British Open over four rounds at Southport Links (designed on the Birkdale course) in their weekly PGA18 Tournament. As well as running the PGA18 tour PGLS runs on weekly basis other various tournaments over 9 holes. This weekâs PGA9 used Falcons Meadow course and our weekly 9-hole PGLS Stableford 9 used the Trump National Hudson Valley course. The other highly subscribed PGLS Open a month long four round tour with a cut after 2 rounds, played on the Hazyview course also ended this week. The remarkable thing about all competitions this week is that they were all won by one player Affo (Andy). Affo won the Pga18 (British Open) tourney by 6 strokes clear of his nearest opponent on 244 points, a staggering -36 over the four rounds. His opening round of 57 included 1 eagle and 11 birdies. I had the pleasure of playing alongside Affo this week in a 9-hole game on the tricky St Enodoc course and I clearly saw why he has become so successful at the game, I saw only one poor shot and he strolled to a -4 over the 9 holes win. We are very fortunate at PGLS to not only have affo playing at the club but he is also a part of our back-room team producing all our game statistics that are so vital for our club.
PGLS on a weekly basis runs 8 tournies that can be played by all its members, it also runs many events that can be played collectively by its core membership and itâs this part of the club that I want to spend time on in this News bite. A club like PGLS heavily relies on its active club members to grow and our club has seen a very high growth rate over the last two years and this has been achieved mainly due to club events and a friendly rivalry that exists. Each Week on a Sunday evening we hold a Knock Out competition, this week the K.O was played on Latrobe Country Club in very blustery conditions, it takes a certain type of player to triumph in these types of conditions on that type of course and it was no surprise to see Duncanmathieson and Bobfletch battling it out in the final with Bobfletch winning this weekâs K.O (2&1). In this weeks Mid-Week Challenge, we were looking for a player to emerge from a group of 5 to claim the title of player of the Month for July and it was TheZiggy who claimed the title scoring 88 Stableford points over the 4 weeks of July. In our 24-hour Challenge where competitors have the opportunity to play twice over the same 9 holes to produce one result Biffa (Les) triumphed with a best score over 9 holes. In our Pairs Competition, the combination of Ridler/Charlieb lead on 133 with some players not completing all their 4 rounds yet and still to come is our weekly Seasider challenge when each weekâs players compete on a different coastal course over 4 holes. All our tournies for the week are now over but they start all over again from tomorrow. Two other important competitions are our Ladder games where players can compete against each other to rise to the top of the ladder. In our PGLS stroke ladder gatekeeper is top with a run of 16 games unbeaten and Top player of PGLS match play Ladder is Carl Lapin.
Behind the scenes Mark (Mwh65) and Mimic (Mike) are busy preparing for our first Presidents cup between an International team vs USA, all details can be found on PGLS site.
Hope you have all enjoyed the first PGLS Club Talk I hope to make this a weekly thing. Please add any news you have to it.
