What is a back spin and how and when do you operate it?

Back spin occurs when conditions are correct.

Simply - the more power you apply, the more chance of spin occurring.
The more loft of a club, the more chance of spin occurring.
The conditions of the landing area affect the chance of spin with soft being most likely.

The dot on the ball is NOT a spin indicator, it is a launch angle indicator.

Sometimes conditions can give very unrealistic spin - soft greens, into an upslope with 100% or more wedge and you hit the "snap", you can get stupid amounts of backspin.

You have to work in all those parts above to work out if spin may occur.

Hope that helps.

What dot on the ball? Is it to do with the 3 click system?

I think the dot is to do with knowing which way the ball is spinning when in the air.

i will leave this one alone, as i have been told in another forum
i was wrong, but i will say my way seems to work for me, i tend to let this question go by most of the time.
to each their own.

lets just say all of the above, and leave it at that.

:clapping: lol well that answer was a bust come on Dave the 64 wedge is major backspin, i think if you keep it under the top line is less spin go over and bam 50 yard spin, i suggest go up a club and less distance.. Thats my 2 cents worth, cubbies out..:)

hitting late on the snap always seems to get me more backspin on the wedges then anything else
i do not play past the 100% mark on the meter, and as you said in your post i do club up quit a bit
most 77yrd shots are done with the 91yrd wedge and a little top spin. 70yrd shots done with the 77yrd wedge
and hit bout at the top with half low spin and it seems to slow the backspin a touch and also sometimes kicks them a short
distance to the right or left, sometimes brings them back pretty close to the hole. fiddle around with it a little you will see what im talking about.
