PGLS - a look back through the years - Season 2 Autumn 16
Posted: Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:24 pm
PGLS' 2nd season was the first full on Season with another new event to boot, the Stableford based at this time on the normal 2pts for par, 3 for birdie etc. Player numbers were increasing with the PGA18 and Stableford attracting 30 starters plus for the last 6 weeks of the season and the PGA9 getting around 40 for the same period. The monthly Open was proving the most popular event with an average of 51 people taking part during the Autumn.
There was a change in policy to coincide with the commencement of the Season, Amateur only and Pro only events were set with the 2 levels alternating between PGA9 and Stableford one week, then PGA18 the other so players either played in 1 event per week or 2, depending on their level. This lasted for 6 weeks until the normal free for all was reintroduced.
The player who profited most from the Tier split was GrampyNigel who ended up with 14 event wins in the Season, 10 ahead of the next highest of 4 wins by altaedm and BladeRunner. In all, 16 players managed to win an event out of the 98 different players.
GrampyNigel was also unsurprisingly the player with most podium spots - 18 times out of the 23 starts he made. This was 6 more than altaedm and noelw1969 both with 12 podiums.
4 players played 100% of the events they could (32):
terbal
Gotallofthatone
duncanmathieson
Just Jolly
The last 2 still very active to this day!
Debut winners this Season were:
PGA9:
wk15 - fishwicket79
PGA18:
Stableford:
wk2 - fishwicket79
Looking at the ELO Rankings, the top 2 from Summer 17 only played 11 and 9 events respectively but managed rounds that kept them in the same positions with Affo managing to reduce the gap to No1 richybro01 slightly from 24 to 18 pts. GrampyNigel with all the before mentioned wins moved from 20th to 4th (would have been even better if his wins weren't mainly in the Amateur only events which meant less points to gain) and altaedm's good finishes moved him from 17th to 3rd. TBone was a big mover up from 50th at the end of the Summer season to 8th and JoeBradley was our highest new entry in at 9th.
nb.If a player is dormant for 13 weeks, they are removed from the table but if/when they return to playing, pick up with the points total they had before.
Next up...Winter 17 and the names in the top 20 start changing!
