Fairways hit question

Viewing various players' scorecards for a tourney round, some may say 'Fairways Hit: 5/7' while others say 'Fairways Hit: 4/6'. The meaning of the numerator is obvious, and I get that par 3 holes don't count, but I don't get why the denominator varies from one player scorecard to the next. Same tourney, same round, same course, same holes. Under what circumstances or shot outcomes does it not count the attempt?

Total guess, but would it depend on the club used from the tee? It shouldn't. Or perhaps if the tee shot finds OB or a penalty area and the tee shot is re-hit, maybe it's not counted???

:hmmm:

I just looked at various players Round 1 scorecards on the PGA 9 and PGA 18 tournies and they all say for "Fairways Hit", x/7 on PGA 9 and x/14 on PGA 18 for the ones I've checked.

The denominator should be the same for all players in the same Round in the same tourney. Can you link directly to the scorecards for the ones you mention so I can check this please.

Here are three from Round 1 of the current PGA 9:
tourney_pga9_honours.php?archtype=Score ... e=251&id=8 (3/5)
tourney_pga9_honours.php?archtype=Score ... =251&id=19 (5/6)
tourney_pga9_honours.php?archtype=Score ... =251&id=61 (4/7)

I had wondered if it might result from OB, water hazard, other drop/rehit scenarios, or a tee shot in the sand. Another possibility that came to mind is reaching the green in one on a par 4.

Edit: Updated links to point to the archived rounds. Also noting that in a different tournament it was observed that reaching the green from the tee on a par 4+ appears to be counted as an attempt and a missed fairway.
