I have played my last 5 rounds with this ball which has hurt my scores a bit - I was hoping to get better results with my approach shots with less roll-out but it seems there is little difference with the Avant ball while giving up tee distance - am I doing something wrong? What is the advantage with this ball, if any?

5 rounds is not enough time to get used to this ball, esp when your so used to the avant ball....maybe 3,4 months to get used to the distances and spins and bounces....

the main reason i stay with cal is for those sliders that we all get from time to time.....those are killers with avant......

I though the only advantage was going less wide if you dont shoot perfectly straight?
Never played with it so I don´t know, this is just what I heard.

Pardon my ignorance, Mark, but what are "sliders"? And another question - does the calibre ball stop/spin better than the Avant?

For any club, full shot the caliber @ TP has the same miss-hit penalty as avant @ Pro.
overhit 123% caliber = distance of 100% avant.
caliber wedges have more backspin than avant.
putting, chipping, & pitching is the same for all combos of TP, Pro, avant, & caliber

Thanks, John - I think I will go back to the Avant, since there appears to be no advantage with the calibre - it has cost me a few strokes per round trying it out, but it was fun while it lasted! I wanted to see if there was an advantage - I have found only disadvantage especially in loss of tee distance

The Calibre ball was advertised as being more accurate with the trade off being less distance.The "more accurate" part is disputed by many people and unfortunately the only people who can tell us the truth have left the building.
Personally I tried it one round so don't have an opinion one way or another.

I think I detected a slightly smoother meter with the Calibre and slightly less deviation on mishits but not sufficiently better to make me use the ball - back to Avant for now

As already noted the main difference between the Avant and the Caliber balls are distance and dispersion. The carry distances shown in-game are the carry distances for a perfectly hit 100% power Avant ball, As a rule of thumb that number is the total distance (including run-out) for a perfectly hit Caliber ball. As to dispersion the Avant ball will go further off-line than the Caliber ball for the same amount of mishit.

It becomes a case of "horses for courses". If I'm playing a course with tight, tree-lined fairways I'll use the Caliber ball to help keep me in the fairway (or nearer to it). For a wide open course I'll go for the Avant's extra distance. Choice of ball will also be affected by which tees are being used and the layout of the course. As IRL it's a matter of choosing the right tool for the job at hand.
