FPS HELP

Post by LinksPro »

I know why I suck at this game now. Well, one of the reasons. My FPS is somewhere slower than a snail. Wondered why my meter stops wherever it wants to sometimes or doesn't stop when its supposed to. I have it shown on the screen as I play. Sometimes its at 5FPS and hardly ever gets above 30FPS. Shouldn't it be steady also? Can anyone give me some support with this? I have tried messing around with the Vsync in the game and in my graphics card. No help. My PC isn't the best but it should be good enough for this game. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 card. Here are some of the adjustments I can make on the card:

Vertcal sync;
Use global setting
Off
On
Adaptive
Adaptive Half Refresh Rate
Fast

Should I be screwing around with any of these settings and if so what should they be set at? What should it be set at in the game? I have all of the graphics set as low as possible in game to help also. Thanks.
If it goes left, its a hook. If it goes right, its a slice. If it goes straight, its a miracle!

Well the graphics card you have isn't the worst by far. What are your machine specs eg CPU, RAM etc.

Your motherboard/CPU is about 10 years old, and although meets the minimum game requirements, they are probably limiting your experience. The game is heavily dependent on the GPU as well and yours is also dated.

What resolution are you trying to run at?
Are you using a monitor or TV as your display?
What are the current graphic settings you run the game with? (Shadow distance, grass distance, camera view, etc., etc.)

I'd suggest:
- not sure what "adaptive" is, but turn it off or set it to 1x the refresh rate instead of half (is this a graphics card setting?).
- leave your graphics card settings as default (hopefully there is a "reset to default" option)
- turn Vsync off in the game
- try reducing camera view to minimum
- try turning shadows off/minimum

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't know that you'll get the experience you're hoping for with your system. In my opinion, upgrading the GPU or switching to an SSD (assuming the computer currently uses an HDD) is not going to make an appreciable difference either. If turning down the settings in the game to a level that is reasonably aesthetic to your eyes doesn't help the FPS, it might be time to splurge for a new system.

You are correct. This is an older PC but not dead. Should be enough to run the game, I would think. It has a water cooled 128 GB SSD drive where the game runs from. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 24" TV/Monitor at 1920x1080. I just checked and the in game resolution is set at 1280x720. Is that right? Every quality setting is off or to the far left except the camera view distance which is at 1500. Probably time for a new system anyway. Have any suggestions on an affordable gaming system? Keep in mind, I'm an old man on social security. Thanks.

Is that the original installation of Win7? If so, a format and reinstall would do wonders for you. That said, if its 10 years old, you might be on borrowed time anyway (hardware).

Not the original installation of Windows 7. I bought this PC used from a person on Craigslist years ago. Not really sure how many. Intelligent man. Actually his father owned a PC repair shop. He cleared the hard drive and installed this version of Windows. I'm sure I am due for a new PC. When I was younger and a working man I would update my PC's with a new graphics driver and/or processor about every 2 years. A new PC every 4 years. I have about 5 PC's sitting around the house. LOL. Guess I'll have to tell the wife she can't have next months Social Security check so I can buy a new PC. Lets see how that goes over. If you don't see me around you'll have the answer.

Armand pretty much summed it all up. Try setting the view distance to 500, it`s enough and greatly improves performance. Also Vsync ON is completely unplayable with 3C in this game, just adds enough delay to ruin it. Regarding your PC specs and upgrading, an upgrade from your current specs would greatly improve your performance and actually wouldn`t cost that much, if you upgraded for instance on a z170 platform motherboard you can get one of these on ebay used for much less than a hundred squid (also called `socket 1151`), add to that an Intel I5 processor model that is overclockable and then you just need a new graphics card ( for instance Geforce gtx970, used on ebay for 50 bucks!). THen you have yourself basically a nice and capable gaming/work/multimedia system that can run most games on full hd on high/medium for a couple hundred squid! Since you have already a nice ssd, you just need to check if the power supply needs upgrading. I`d say your wife HAS to understand that :D lol. If you are looking for bang for the buck I can only recommend buying on ebay auctions.

Don`t buy prebuilt machines, it`s basically throwing money out the window. Maybe a similar spec machine as mentioned is being sold in an auction, should also be a good deal. Good luck with your search ( and your wife) ;D If you need any help/input, I`d gladly do so.

That`s what I meant Crusher, should have been more specific.
