Re: New Points System?
unlike some, I have accepted the poll and played this week anyway.
I'm more wondering in the next few weeks if the numbers start to fall too much
what will happen.

Re: New Points System?
The sad fact is Andy can probably still get to 100 points with this improved(haha) system while most will struggle to reach 0......its just not fair.....as for it all being relative well I suppose that's true but it will be discouraging for some and wont entice others to join imho

Re: New Points System?
I'm sorry people feel this way. The old competition was nothing different to the PGA9/18, just numbers going up instead of down. Basically, no point.
The poll was to try something different, a proper points system and more people wanted to try it than not. It was hoped that players would strive to first try and get into positive, then start going for the bigger points shots...just an idea.
Would it really make that much difference if 3 points were added to each outcome to avoid players having a minus score?

The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Re: New Points System?
Interesting.
Ok, so I blitzed the first round, but if I hadn't, not sure you would have seen my name at the top as I made some bogies which as you all have found out really hurt. In effect, I eagled the 72nd hole which just about ensured I stayed ahead of jspirate. I was watching his scoring as he was about 9 holes behind and he had a good chance of passing my score until I finished strongly and got out of reach.
The secret really is to initially keep those doubles off and some tough holes you just got to play safe for Par, no more just pin hunting.
I think the new scoring brings more course management into play. On the tee, is that Par 5 reachable in 2...maybe, but how likely are you to be in rubbish near the green and maybe struggling for a Par if you pitch or chip poorly...is the better play leaving a full shot to stop dead near the pin for a better birdie chance and then 2 pts?
Anyway, just some thoughts, liked it to be honest, brought a different challenge to the game.
Hope others warm to it and some get their blinkers off

Of course that's the "secret". But tour pros NEVER miss a snap. Pro players are penalized 30, 40, and 50 feet with a teeny tiny snap miss. That's what leads to doubles, because those 30-50 feet in the conditions land you in water, or under a bush where your next shot is 12 feet, or OB. Lucky to get a double.
As for the poll, I didn't even vote. Never knew about the poll until it was over. Not PGLS fault. Just don't have time to play 7 tournaments a week, plus read every post in the forum.
Just my two cents.

Only trying to help with some pointers.
Oh, we do miss snaps, you'll see a smattering of bogies on rounds 2,3,4 on my cards.

Re: New Points System?
I find all these tourneys hilarious sometimes. If you look at last weeks Stableford rounds you will see I only played rounds 1 and 2. I shot 6 and 1. I looked up at the leaderboard and Affo had 27 and 6 and jspirate had 18 and 12. There was no way in the world that I had ANY chance of even making a run to the top let alone win a tourney. I think I played a round or some of a round in almost all of the tourneys last week. Never finished a tourney. When I look at the leaderboard and I am so far away that I would have to ace every hole to get close to the leaders, I give up, move to the next tourney and continue the fight. No chance, no play.
If it goes left, its a hook. If it goes right, its a slice. If it goes straight, its a miracle!

Re: New Points System?
dude you just worry too much about winning, all can not be winners.
It sounds like you may just be a happier camper if you quit doing tourneys and play some multiplayer instead.
