Drop Outs And Resumes

Post by Golferdee »

Just interested to hear other players experiences with drop outs and resumes.

Just finished 18 holes and again no score recorded and had to resume on hole 18 again.

This scenario results in a "penalty shot" and seems to be happening (to me at least) on a regular basis.

What is your take on this? Is it Steam, Perfect Golf, dodgy internet connection, or another background program interfering with the game?

Would welcome any suggestions. I have ordered a wi-fi extender hoping that might help

None of your PGA 18 rounds have got penalty shots on this occasion. It's difficult to pin down what's causing these but we can't completely rule out intentional disconnects and every penalty stroke is assessed on whether it gets removed.

Granted though Steam is the biggest culprit along with micro disconnections, eg wifi.

Some stats regarding the rounds played on PGA 18 ...

13 rounds out of 200 got at least 1 penalty stroke added but on Friday and Saturday there were no penalty strokes issued at all.

Thanks for the info Mark. Most of my recent rounds have been OK but have experienced this twice on Skillz recently.

I assume that penalty shots don't apply in that comp, unless of course on resume you miss a green that you had previously scored points on.

Personally I don't see any point in intentionally disconnecting but I have had a few occasions when the game has just locked up and left with no resort but to quit. I don't like doing this as I know it will more than likely penalise a shot so nothing to be gained there.

All said though I appreciate that it is just something we all have to live with. I'll just have to get an extra birdie to compensate - LOL

Penalty shots are given when PG thinks you have intentionally disconnected eg ball mid-air or disconnecting before clicking 'Continue' on the post shot screen due to a bad shot. As you know that isn't always the case, usually when you are left with a 'No Drop' situation and have to force close the game.

As a point of interest.
On most Tuesdays at around 7PM EST, Steam does their weekly recycle or update.
Riddler and I encountered that last night before 7 while playing our pairs match, which we had finished,
Upon reconnecting we found ourselves on hole 18 with me hitting a T shot, but not allowing him to hit one.
We were assessed a penalty stroke at the end.

Glad that penalty stroke didn't screw up the final standings for you. Congrats!

To add - Affo and I also had several drops and freezes on Sunday evening while playing pairs. Just notify Mark of the circumstances.
