New Courses?

Post by RoobsNY »

Hi Folks,

When I like at the Courses listing, the latest I see is Crow's Nest uploaded in November. It seems a long time around here without any new courses. I just want to verify that is the case, and maybe its not something with my browser that isn't updating.

And to all the course designers out there: a very vvery hearty Thank You!!

New courses have completely dried up and to be honest so have any updates.

yes, it looks like we best enjoy the ones we have.
as on the PP forums, there is not even chat about anything
related to course design. I believe most of the designers have been let down
by the Jones Boys and have given up and moved on. I sure hope this game is not quick to follow
but it is what it is.

" have given up and moved on"

Hmm, moved on to what?

Anyway, the library is fantastic. The simulation, as far as I know, maybe not perfect, but definitely not surpassed. It'd be nice to have some bells and whistles, but the fundamentals on this game are wonderful.

I will keep playing for the foreseeable fuiture.

You've summed it up very well. A functional golf sim that is 95% spot on, 5% warts, and an absolute wonderful course library provided by a golf community that cares about the sport of golf. Mark runs this site and provides a lot of the bells & whistles that are missing. :v:

Hi Roobs. This is a game that was prereleased in 2014. That's six years ago with no major income for the "Jones Brothers". They sold the company when things got financially tight. That means someone else owns the "source code" to this game. No need to go into what company bought the source code, someone else will most likely continue that story in this thread.

What all of us find amazing is that the game is still sold at Steam Store, and for close to $40.00 USD. People still occasionally purchase it and if they have a very good gaming machine, they usually love it. This game is Links 2003 on steroids and in 3D.

Keep you fingers crossed. Someone might run with this "source code" because it really is worth perpetuating.

Oh..and happy first month anniversary as a member of PGLS Dec 7, 2020 to Jan 7, 2021. :drinks:

I agree with the above comments about the quality of this game and I assume that everyone wants to keep it alive. Whoever does know who owns the code and how to contact them, please post in this thread. If they aren't selling many games, maybe they'd entertain an offer for all or part ownership. I know, I know, we may not have enough members to generate enough capital but it can't hurt to ask, can it? Also, if we owned the code and could include a few in-game ads, perhaps we could raise enough.

I don't know the answer but I think it's time we put our heads together and at least explore some options to keep it alive long term.

I sent the following email to Andrew on the 6th December last year ...
Hi Andrew,

I’m emailing you on behalf of myself and quite a few other players regarding the Perfect Golf software which we all love to play and would hate to see it die. Obviously we are aware that you and Mike now work for Trackman and that work on Perfect Golf stopped due to the money running out.

We are therefore asking if there is any way forward to get work started again on Perfect Golf or even if Perfect Golf 2 is still an option.

If Perfect Golf 2 is no longer an option what would it take for work to start again on Perfect Golf?

and never got a response from it nor a follow up one I sent last week. If anyone else wants to try his email address is andrew@perfectparallel.com

I had a 1 hour telephone chat with him in January 2018, a few months before they went dark. We talked about the proper way to model wind, then I sent him the equations to do the modeling. He told me they would make their way into PG2. Never heard back.

I could call him, but after 2 years that seems kind of stalker-ish to me.

It's possible he's no longer checking that email address regularly. I wouldn't assume he's even seen the one you sent last week, or any that anyone else sends him.
