Iron Valley and Lancaster CC

Post by slouis »

R Barley, I downloaded your two courses and must say that they are great renditions. I checked out both in practice mode to get a quick look before playing and have a couple of comments.

On Iron Valley there are two holes, 5 and 6 where the FPS is in the low 40's. Other than that the rest of the holes are fine.

On Lancaster there is a background loud humming noise throughout the course that is quite distracting. I'm wondering if you would be able to release another version with the sounded either toned down or removed. No fps issues on any of the holes.

Thanks for sharing these courses with the community.

Confirmed. It sounds like vehicle traffic noise if you isolate the birds twittering.

I normally don't have background sounds on so if anyone else checks please make sure the background sounds are on.

Thanks for the comments on some of the observations of those courses. Hole 4 and 5 at Iron Valley have fairly heavy amount of grasses planted on those hole. I'm sure that the reason for the fps drop. I think our bench mark is around 60 fps for our courses. I play perfect golf with a good amount of detail activated and I have few lower fps at times, but I have a pretty hefty computer to play the game on. I used some course sounds found somewhere and it didn't seem to annoying to me, but I play the game with low sound or none at all. Unless someone finds something that really needs to be address for the LCC course they will remain as they are. I have a good number of new courses that I'm working on at the moment. I will keep in mind about the sound issues. I may just leave the default sounds that came with course forge. I'm part of another course design group for GSpro which has some good things that helps me continue designing for PPG. We had a programmer develop an app that can put together lidar and the google or bing overlay together that makes it easy to download and import into Unity. So I have about 30 courses at the moment that may or may not be developed for PPG. Really the big hangup for me is doing the 3d models. Dr.Rob has developed a newer version of his house builder for blender that has given me a lift for making a few models, but it still a steep learning curve for me. So keep a look out for a few new courses this year.

Thanks for the reply. I believe you released some courses years ago.

I've had an issue with Iron Valley twice that you may want to check out. If you resume play after exiting a round, you are immediately offered the choice of hitting with a penalty. Doesn't seem to be any way of getting round that. Earlier today I played the front 9 and then exited. When I returned this happened. It also happened yesterday.

A comment on the penalty..
If you exit the round in the middle of a hole, you will incur a penalty stroke.
You must exit or quit before taking a Tee shot.

Additionally, if you have to quit the game because of a NO Drop occurence after hitting into a hazard, you will incur a penaty.
But since upon restarting you are able to Retee or hit the shot without penalty, the game round does add a stroke as it should since you initially did hit the hazard,

Still not sure what is going on. I just tried Iron Valley, completed the first hole and exited. Started PG and clicked on resume. The penalty came up again.
Played one hole on Kinloch, exited. I then started PG and clicked on resume. No penalty.
What am I missing?

RBarley has been designing a lot longer than I have, but from own personal experience and especially early on when I started designing, if I left a rogue pin or tee, you may experience in-game anomalies such as this. There could also be the instance of overlapped splines (greens, rough, tees, etc) and/or a hazard spline that may have been moved and not re-rendered... not saying that has happened in Iron Valley, but when I build a course and then some weird stuff happens, its usually my mistake.

I just recently had an instance where I moved a pin on the green for better hole position, but forgot to re-render the green and once I tested in game, I hit the ball a few inches from the hole. Even playing with gimmies, I should have moved on to the next hole, but instead my player was chipping inches from the hole. I couldn't get past it. Chip after chip.. So, I went back in, moved the pin slightly again and re-rendered the hole. Problem fixed and never happened again. Again, I am only going by from my own course building goof ups or it could be that these things just happened to me, but I have made it a routine that if I touch or move anything, be sure to rebuild that green, rough, fairway, whatever...

Like I said, RB has been doing this for a long time and definitely knows what he is doing. If there is something like what I posted above, I am sure he will find and fix it.

EDIT: Fired up Iron Valley - hit first shot dead middle of fairway. Purposely hit 2nd shot short of the green. Exited out and resumed shortly after. I did receive the Penalty.

Fired up "The Grove" - same routine.. first shot fairway, 2nd shot short of the green, exited out.. resumed, No penalty. Resumed the game standing in the fairway for my 3rd shot.

It has been my experience that if you do not exit/end round on a Tee, you receive a penalty for doing so.

As I indicated, finished the first hole at Iron Valley and Kinlock so when I clicked exit I was standing on the 2nd tee box. Penalty with Iron Valley but no penalty for Kinloch.
I've been playing since 2015 and don't remember this happening to me on any course.
