PGLS Fair Play Statement
PGLS Fair Play Statement
Hi to all,
PGLS would like to make the following statement with regards to fair play:
As Tournament providers, PGLS are keen to ensure that all players, regardless of swing type or level of play, compete on as much of a level playing field as possible.
Scoring in a recent event has raised the issue of whether we can take some scoring at face value. With this in mind, we have undertaken a review of how we use certain data we have at our disposal. Previous to this point we have relied on an honour system to ensure that players are playing within the spirit of sportsmanlike conduct.
Using data which we felt before did not need to be assessed upon, we will now be looking at the data produced on the swing physics and resulting shot. This will be occurring from this point onward and is the initial part of a focused effort to bring transparency and trust to scores which our members post.
Initially we will be assessing this data, and establishing what it tells us. Future travel will be towards making this data work to ensure the game is played in the manner it was intended, and in allowing all members to be sure of the veracity of such play.
More details of the work we are doing will be released over the next seven days, along with details of how this will affect tour operations and the play of our membership.
We thank you for your continued support during this period, and hope we can soon ensure that our site and tournaments provide a place to play that can be trusted and relied upon to showcase the legitimate talents of its members.

Re: PGLS Fair Play Statement
Whilst I would certainly hope we are all playing fairly and as the game was meant to be played, I'm now concerned this isn't the case by this statement.
I haven't frequented forums as often as I used to, and tend to go directly to what I want, rather than scan forums for interesting topics. Perhaps I've missed some topics, I'm unsure.... are there scores and issues relating to swing styles that have been suspicious? I know last weeks Tournament, before the Masters, was quite good scores, and I even achieved some low scores consistently. Not often that happens lol...!
Can I ask what data is taken, and how it can be used to display what is believed to be 'not' face value?

Ian,
As the statement says, details will be forthcoming over the next week. The above is a statement of our intent, and serves to initially tell of our intention to address issues raised elsewhere on the board. Our data is part of the API data coming across with all details of the tournament events played. We will be outlining how we are using this data, but we do need the week's grace we have timetabled to be sure of what will be a move which will help to make things more transparent and trustworthy.
The majority of players I can safely say will have no issue with anything we do and should have no worries on what we are doing, but we seek to provide clarity in what we are doing, and that will be explained fully at the point at which we are able to do so.

Re: PGLS Fair Play Statement
this is just my opinion.... but while members are allowed to participate in tours playing solo rounds, there will always be rumblings of discontent amongst members and assumptions thrown against low or very good scores, or in some cases unreal scores.... i have never been able to play a solo round in real life, and to me golf is not a solo game its a social game. if it was done so that you had to play a tour round with another member then some of the doubts about a low score can be eased a little if there is another player there to actually see the shots and score being made.I have mentioned this before and was told that we might lose membership, but do we really need those members ? just my 2 cents
Some people are like slinkies. Not much good for anything but bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs!
Re: PGLS Fair Play Statement
I am very happy to see this Fair Play Statement. I am hoping PGLS can weed out the exploiters. Happy days ahead!

Re: PGLS Fair Play Statement
Les's point about golf being a social game, and one that verifies fair play through always being under scrutiny from a playing partner is a good one, and actually the direction which PGLS took when it first started.
Whilst we would not insist on members only ever having to play rounds in pairs (much as that would be desirable with unlimited time on hand), we do have a site that offers the chance to participate in live head-to-head competition in our ladder competition, knockouts and friendly rounds. If more players were to take up the opportunities offered to play that way, it would certainly go a long way towards players making less innuendo and accusation of someone's scoring if they see them do similar in a game environment.

Re: PGLS Fair Play Statement
Whilst Les' comments are very true in ideal world, I for one wouldn't be around still if I had to play with someone everytime. Each round would double in time and that's not something I can put up with.
I enjoy social golf as much as the next man but I just tend to play pc and xbox as solo, call me a loner, probably true, just how it is.
I have before recorded rounds and am happy to in the future if it were required, nothing to hide here in sleepy Dorset! Just me an my mouse and click finger

The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.
Play well and enjoy your game everyone!
btw, not a game for snowflakes.

Re: PGLS Fair Play Statement
I don't think they should have made their intentions known, and just gone ahead.I also think each person should have to upload a recorded round for each round of the tournament there in. Maybe when a persons round is complete, the recorded round could be uploaded right to this site automatically.
I am all for playing my tournament with another person, but finding someone that is available when you are is easier said then done.
