2,or 3 ball club

Post by LES1959 »

folks keep saying the game is as close to possible to real golf, yet you dont even play to real golf rules.................in all my time playing real life golf not once in any competition have i been able to score a card solo.Even when joining a club you have to go out with a member to score your card, just to get your handicap.
A lot of members work and only have a short time window to get rounds in at night, so i am making a suggestion, to see if we can get a number of members who are willing to play with other members.
there must be more than just me who prefers playing with another person, it helps my game.
So who is willing to see if this works, tee times are from say 5 pm to 8 pm mon to thursday, and fri, sat sun is normal, i play mostly sat and sunday morning 7am till 12 midday when most are asleep lol
Some people are like slinkies. Not much good for anything but bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs!

A good informal plan Les. Lets see some bookings on the Tee Times Calendar to that effect and you may start a trend.

Les I think everybody would like to play with someone else but most cant and some wont. I myself don't play from Friday afternoon to Sunday night as I go to my place at the beach every week and I always play a morning round at 6:30 am before work and at night I might be free but then a phone call comes in I have to take and the game sits there for half an hour while I tend to the call. I plan on retiring at the end of the year and at that time I will be more flexible but at this time its just not there. Then there is the group that just wont play online and that will never change. My hope is that with JNPG2 you will be able to record your tournament round and then another player can play it during the tournament round and that would really livin up the game IMHO.

When I played for many years on Jack Nicklaus 6 (Golden Bear Challenge) it was decided by those in authority that players taking part in 'World Tour' events could play 2 of the 4 rounds solo if they wished - but the other 2 rounds HAD TO BE played online with another tour member. Failure to comply with that rule meant they would get a DQ - no questions, no appeals, that was it. Perhaps an option on PGLS? Perhaps not...

Only an option if you wish to see our current level of participation cut drastically. When we began we had a requirement that all players played with company, and the other player signed for their companion's score.... we totalled around 10 players at best!

There's a whole lot of things that would make this game better. But, for practical reasons alone, it's not fair to be the guinea pig - and suffer occasional lag hiccups - against the host, which usually gets the smoothest game performance. So, the host always has home advantage, due to the server issues.

I guess the solution would involve either finding out the players with the best connections, or just rotating tee times, so that all players get a chance from time to time to host.

I personally think that there should be Ryder Cup style tournaments every week; with team match play. The Pair-Up thing is fun in theory. But, it seems more like a grind, when played 36 holes start to finish. Basically, there should be a Pair-Up Knockout style event, as well.

It would be really cool if the golf community was more about a team golf atmosphere. That is what online golf is all about, playing games against live competition... and not just heads up; or a rare Ryder Cup. It's much more rewarding teaming up, particularly when you aren't out on an actual course with a group. Plus, this isn't real Tour golf, so we can focus on the events that make more sense to an online community, rather than just posting solo tournaments that guys can sit back and cherry pick all by themselves, slow playing every shot. - Speaking of which, is another benefit of playing golf in groups. Then you can utilize a timer, which properly enforces Slow Play rules of golf.

What we have now - solo tournaments - kind of dis-incentivizes multiplayer. Personally, when I'm in tournament mode, I am totally distracted away from multiplayer matches. I mean, you don't want to leave a good round while it's going. Plus, you don't know if you can even resume the game correctly, or if it will look like you are deliberately restarting. So, once you start a solo tourney, you kind of have to at least finish the round, all at once; for both rhythm and practical purposes.

Conversely... oftentimes, there will be 3 of us in the lobby trying to find a fourth player for an Alternate Shot game, and yet... guys that are being invited are already playing a solo tournament, or getting ready to... in the middle of the day. It's kind of ruining the viability of multiplayer... not as if the community was big to begin with. But, there should almost be a rule that solo tournaments are not open during certain times of the day, so that players would be required to show up and find a group, or a pairing to go off, kind of like having a tee time.

Unfortunately, no amount of making up new rules is going to get guys to play with other guys. Some guys just like playing golf in groups, and some like playing solo. Very few guys have the time and patience to be reliable both online and offline.
