PG Classics NEWS / REPORTS/ SCORES

Post by Seasider47 »

Welcome to PG Classics

The PG Classics tour is unique in 3 ways ...

1. The first tour to use individual Handicaps. We hope that the use of Handicaps will bring players scores closer together.

2. PG Classics will only use classic real courses. Courses such as Pebble Beach, Royal St Georges, Spyglass Hill and St Andrews Old Course

3. PG Classics will also use P2P (Pay to Play) courses, a first but not the last for PGLS.

At the end of each fortnight period the top highest scorers will receive either Gold, Silver or Bronce awards and at the end of the season all medal winners will enter a Championship Final.

In this section of the forum I will be running features including news items, game reports as well as keeping you informed on top scores.

We hope you enjoy your games in PG Classics and wish all competitors the best of luck. :good:

PG Classics Tour 3 Course: Garry Player CC

Tour 3 takes place in Sun City’s Garry Player CC. The course is a Par 73 and some 7.298 m long and one of the world’s longest courses. The weather for the event was dry but very hot with light to strong breezes.

Day 1 Dry, hot with calm winds of 5mph, the greens held up well and good scores were expected . Two new players emerged to take the early lead, both were complete novices who had attained good handicaps over the few months playing PG. Best score of the day came from Mellowlad with a remarkable -11 (61), Followed by tour regular Marknibnoble (ENG) Tour Pro on a -10 (62), Vainte Tour Pro -10 (62) Then along came two relatively new players to PG both were complete novices who had attained good handicaps over the few months playing PG. =Bob= Gerfaut (France) opened with 2 eagles and 9 birds. For a -9 (63) Whilst Teaghee (Scot) also opened with an eagle followed by 6 birds for a-8 (64). Hot on their heels were Stringb (USA) -8 (63) Skutarue USA also on a -8 (63) and ek 4x4 Ammi -9 (64)
Others included Altaedm (USA) who had to give the course 3 shots picked up 3 bogey’s and still recorded a -7 (65) and Veighk who with and eagle and 8 birds turned in a -10 (62) but then failed to take any further part in the tour.

Day 2 The conditions were a copy of Day 1. The 2 rookie’s had now taken over the top placings with Teaghee (Scot) taking over the top spot with a remarkable -14 (58) -22 for the Tour, =bob=Gerfaut was 3 shots off the lead with a -10 (62) and -19 in total. Stingb was 3rd on -18. Hockeynut had moved into 4th on -16 along with Skutarue also on -16. Vainte, Altaedm and Sandybunker were just behind on -13
Other climbers included Marknibnoble -12, Mellowlad -11 and Terbal -10
Day 3 The dry hot conditions are beginning to take there toll on players, but at least what wind there is has remained calm. The greens are a little faster today which will make a difference.
Teaghee and =bob=Gerfaut press ahead with there handicap advantage, Teaghee scoring another -9 round to take his total to -31 and =Bob=gerfaut keeping up the pressure with also -9 and to remain 3 shots back on -28. Stingb remains in 3rd with a -6 (66) round. Ataedm climbs to 4th on -23 Hockeynut drops to 5th on -20
Skuterue, Sandybunker and vainte are just some of the players who drop down on the day. Whilst Alanj312 as his best round with an eagle and 8 birds for a -9 63 along with SimChars who has a -8 (64) round.

Final Round
Same conditions has on our 3rd round and greens remain on stimp 13.

PG MuirField Village Classic
Muirfield village arguably one of the toughest courses on PG. First few holes ease you in to game and par 5s help to build a score, but back nine is brutal, hole after hole your skills will be challenged. A survey of players scores showed that it was the last 5 holes that caused the main grief.
Thankfully the weather was on our side, mainly dry with just a few light breezes to keep the players on their toes.
Round 1
Sandybunker despite having to loose two shots to the course completed the round with a 67 -5 for the day and tied with daveotw who had the advantage of +5 shots to help him make a -5 67. Dave scored 5 birds in the opening 9 holes but suffered 3 bogeys along with 3 birds on the back nine, whilst Sandy could only make 2 birds on the front but made another 4 on the back. Toonirooni and Smokinggrooves came a close 3rd on the opening round, both scoring -4 68 but this was the last time we would see them both at the top of the leaderboard.

Round 2

After starting round 1 with a -2 70 Oldparkle moves up to the top of the leaderboard with a -6 66 round which included 2 eagles and 4 birds. Daveotw retains is 2nd place with a 68 -4 . Duncanmathieson produces a great round of 68 despite having to give 6 shots to the course and he's closely been followed by another PGLS regular ergo76prop who himself gaves 2 shots back to record a credible -3 69

Miurfield ld 2.PNG
Round 3

Oldparkle retains his number 1 place with his 2nd round of 66. Daveotw keeps hold of the 2nd place for the third day running bringing a -4 68 once again. Ergo76prop moves above Dunc after making a 67 -5. TMK59 enters the top 5 with the best round of the day of 66 -6. Top Amatuer Jollybandido moves into the top 5 with -3 69

Final Round

OLdsparkle secured the win to take Muirfield Village Classic with a round of 70 -2, a bird on the 14th and Eagle on 15 clinched it. Remarkable attempt by Hockeynut to close the gap and take 2nd place with a round of 65, -7 on the day. Ergo76prop came home in third place. This was the tours first use of a Pay to Play Course and I feel the 65 players who took part justified its use

PG Florida Glades Classic

Round 1.

Conditions were ideal, fairway and greens in good condition and hardly any wind to speak of.
Vainte had a superb opening round, especially over the back nine where he made 7 birds and an Eagle, he was to lead the field with 57 -15, 60 score. Hurricane returned just 2 shots behind with a -13 59 score but mysteriously took no further part in the proceedings. There was a 3 shot gap to Qbl Falcon who birdied the 14th through to 18 to record and opening round of 62 -10. Level with Falcon was Greensboroclion also on 62. Equal on 62 was Veighk the only amateur in the top 5. Starliner had to settle for a 63 after missing birdie opportunities on 13,14 and 15 but still impressed with a -9 opening round. Joint third on Round 1 was Makosha who was to drop here only shot on the 18th but did really well to come home with a 63. Goloman could have easily featured in the top 5 with 6 birds and 2 eagles but dropped shots on 2nd 8th and 13th kept him just outside.

Pos Name H/cap Par Today 1 2 2 4 Total
1 Vainte(Pro) +3 57 -15 57

3 Makosha(TP) +1 63 -9 63

Round 2

Starliner Jumped from Joint 3rd to take the lead in round 2 bettering his first round by 1 shot and he could have easily made the gap more but only made par on 17th and 18 but still was able to record a -10 round of 62. Greensboroclion continued to make good progress with a -7 round of 65 sending Qbl Falcon down to 3rd place with a still impressive round of 66. Vainte dropped down to Joint 3rd with a 71, Veighk one of two amateurs in the top 5 stayed in the top 5 with another impressive round of 66, followed by Luforobot1 our 2nd amateur who took 6th place with a -8 64 round.

Round 3

Starliner(TP) continued in much the same way has he did in round 2, birdying holes 2,3 and 8. Starliner was playing off scratch so was totally down to him to make it happen, which he did by birdying holes 15 and 18 and scoring an eagle on 16 to come home with a -7 65. Skutarue was one of just two players to make a 62 today and is our leading amateur and just 2 shots off the lead. Alan54nc was the 2nd player to make best score of the day with another 62, he too eagled 16 and birdied 15 and 18 but hit trouble on 17 with a double bogey. Falcon dropped to 4th place with a disappointing bogey on the 18th after birdying both 16th and 17th. Vainte dropped to 5th after bogeying 12th and 14rh holes to reduce is round to a -2 69th. Greensboroclion after scoring well in the first 2 rounds dropped down into 3rd with a 72 and was to finally finish in 20th position. Outside of the top 5 Alanj312 and Teaghee both Hackers and both doing well at this stage scoring a 66. ILcivEng also had a good round making birds on 14,15,16 and 18 to come in with a 64.

Qbl Falcon scored a 63 on the final round. 1 of 2 highest scores of the round with a 63, (the other 63 coming from Nickel3rd which happened to be is only below 70 score). Falcons 63 was enough to propel him into second place and to give him gold in the Pro class. Skutarue scored a 68 which gave him gold also in the amateur class. Vainte came 4th with a 64 finally ending up with a total of 261 strokes just knocking Luforobot1 who also scores a final round of 64 into 5th spot with 262 strokes. PG Deere Run Classic
Deere Run GC poses multi Threats, Narrow fairways many with doglegs guarded by Trees along each side of the fairways, Fairways very undulating and if you just stay into the trees your often in big trouble.

Round 1

JMK59 took an early lead alongside Mellowladd both scoring -8 63 for the round. An early Eagle for JMK59 on hole 2 was cancelled out by a bogey on 5 other wis a good round that included 7 birds. Mellowladd made a net eagle on the 9th but a bogey on the 17 took away the advantage, but 2 good rounds for the early starters. Marknibnoble also came in with a 63 but dropped away and failed to finish the tour. Alanr54nc playing off scratch made a credible 64 but a bogey on 18 robbed him of the opportunity to share the lead in round 1. Shotmaker1 also scored a -7 64 but eventually dropping to 16th in later rounds.
deere run r1.PNG
Round 2
Hurricane moved into the lead Helped immensely by is +10 handycap, a new player who will rapidly move up the ranks and do well. Hurricane headed the round with a -11 total of 60. His rearest rival was Mellowladd who had a good front 9 but a net eagle on back 9 was unfortunately cancelled out by a double bogey on the 18th hole leaving Mellowladd 2 adrift of the lead and sharing 2nd place with Hickory who having scored a 66 in round one completes a 2 shot better score of 64 in this round. JMK59 having made first place in round one slips to 4th with a 67 in this. One of PGLS’s long standing member Perculator makes his first appearance in the top 5 today with a -7 64 and Les1959 comes close to an appearance with a 66.
deere rub r2.PNG

PG Shinnecock Hills Classic
Shinnecock is laid out utilizing the natural topography of the Shinnecock Hills, and resembles a number of the courses on the British Isles. It has long been recognized as one of the top courses of the world, and has been the scene of notable U.S.G.A. events since its beginning. These include the second U.S. Open Championship and U.S. Amateur in 1896, the Women’s Amateur in 1900, and the Walker Cup Match in 1977. The U.S. Open Championship was held at Shinnecock again in 1986, and in 1995 for the 100th anniversary of the Open, and again in 2004. The 2018 and 2026 U.S. Open Championships will be held at Shinnecock.
It is recognised as one of the longest courses in the world and though it contains few trees or water hazards it is still a real test to get from tee to green safely. The greens are a real test of a players ability
The Weather for the classic held well with no rain and light breezes but the course still held firm.
Round 1
Players enjoyed a warm but comfortable early start with a slight breeze, greens were slick under a stimp 13. Arsam lead with a remarkable 63 despite suffering 3 bogeys, Just 2 birds recorded on the front 9 but it was the back 9 where the round really got going with eagles on 14 and 15 and ending on 18 with a bird to give a -7 round of 63. Hurricane continued is good run in round 1 with a 6 bird and an eagle in a 6 under round of 64. Whilst UKs Kennetharry came in with -4 66 round in 3rd place. No fewer than 6 players were tied in 3rd place including Blaukraut, Les1959, Altraedm, Winenut and Simchars all on 64.
Whilst many players were enjoying the conditions of round 1 others got off to a bad start including scoops who suffered bogey 5s on 3,4and 6 on the front 9 followed by double bogey 6 on 10 and ended with bogey’s on 17 and 18 to sign in with a 5 over par 75. Perculator also started the campaign on an opening round of 74 but was to recover somewhat on round 2 to record a 64.
shinnecock r1.PNG

Round 2
The round produced 3 new players moving into the top 3 places, staring with Altraedm who added a 67 to his first round score to record a 1 shot lead of 133 before dropping back down with a 72 3rd round and then pulled out of round 4. Onyxcarp equalled is round 1 score of 67 with a second 67 with a 1 shot off the lead 134 and our 3rd newcomer to the leaderboured was Scotlands Duncanmathieson on 135. Climbing up the leaderboard to 4th place was Jdhog1977 with a double round of 68 to end the round on 136 along with Hurricane and Les1959 all sharing 4th spot. Hurricanes round took a nosedive on 13 with a double bogey and then to repeat it again on 18. Les also suffered in the back 9 with bogeys on 11,14 and 18

PG Galloway National Classic

PG Classics is unique in that it uses handicaps to determine who wins, This means that positions can be filled by players from all skill levels. It also sometimes allows new players to succeed with a good opening handicap, which is the case in our Classic tour this period.
All new players must be assessed over a number of games before being issued with a handicap, it could take some new players time to adjust their game whilst leaning. This is very much the case this time.

Galloway National is a challenging course and the conditions over the 4 rounds certainly posed a number of problems. The weather forecast was for a mixture of wet and dry days with a steady breeze throughout.

Round 1
Early 9am start with some fog but other wise perfect conditions prevail. An 8 mph breeze will continue throughout the event but otherwise high scores were forecast. The surprise of round 1 was without doubt the opening round by Weavhunt. In his first start in PG Classics and with a generous +11 handicap he returned a score of net 56 which included 5 eagles and a further 6 birds, dropping is only shot on hole 2. This first round game helped Weavehunt established a massive lead of 15 shots over his nearest rival. Someway behind our leader was Greensboronclian who has shown a lot of consistency on the leaderboards over past months, he returned a score of 61 with no fewer than 5 birds in his back 9. Mellowlad playing off scratch came back with a score of 62 -9 for the round, birdying 15,16 and 18 to nearly catching greensboronclion. Up and coming player alanj scored an impressive -8 62 round and I’m sure we will see him rise up the ranks over the next few months. Two other new comers to the tour Kevinf and Tezza are players to watch in the future, Kevin returned a 62 and Tezza a 63 score.

Round 2
Overnight thunderstorms and continuous rain throughout the day made the greens softer and slower and had a great effect on the rounds scores. Weavehunt Stays above the pack with a -7 64. Greensboronclion closes the gap to just seven shots behind with a 64 and Tezza enters the top 5 with an impressive 63, only Dmanz 56 can top it with a 62.

Round 3
More rain today but the greens are recovering. Weavehunt steps up the pace again with a -12 on the day to record a 59. A run of 7 birdies on the back 9 is only spoilt with a bogey 4 on the 17th. Greensboronclian drops back to 11 shots behind with a round of 65, Skip continues a good run of games to score 63 to add to his 2 previous rounds of 64 each. Alanj scores the 2nd best round of the day with a 62 (the lowest round of the day of 61 was made by Wirenut48 who then failed to record a score in R4). Hockeynut moves into the top 4 position with a round of 63 but mellowlad drops to 6th with a 67.

Round 4
Best conditions for the tourney happens on the final round, Sunny and dry and the greens have definitely speeded up, a steady breeze continues but otherwise perfect for good golf. Weavhunt Takes the win with -11 60 on the day to win by 14 strokes. Skip moves into 2nd place with a 62 Whilst Greenboronclion must settle for 3rd with is 2nd 65 having got off to a poor start with bogey’s on 2nd and 5th he pulled it back with 6 birds. Mellowlad moved up into 4th place with a 63 and alanj took 5th with a 65
