HOW TO : Video capture your great shots.

Post by Crusher »

I have been asked in several forums, "what software do you use to capture and edit your videos?". The answer to that question is, I use legacy programs that I experimented with, and learned how to make them compatible with each other. Something I could never explain to someone else.

My best suggestion is download nVidia GeForce Experience and learn how to capture your shots using the new "Share" feature in the program. Here is a video from a year ago from someone in the UK who explains it and shows it to you. It's a good video.
If you have a fairly modern nVidia card you most likely do an express installation of the driver which also installs the GeForce Experience. If you do a custom installation of your driver (I choose nVidia Driver and PhysX only), you can download GeForce Experience from the link below.

To edit a video takes practice with whatever video production software you choose. Just like this game, you have to practice over and over to learn the nuances and complexities of the software's UI and Features.

I do have a tip for users who want to dabble with http://www.fraps.com . If you're just going to upload a shot, download a free AVI to MP4 Video Converter. FRAPS* uses the raw video format .AVI. These are huge files that even for one shot are going to be over a Gigabyte in size. Just convert that file to an MP4, the most universal video file type. It will look great and only be around 200 to 400 Megabytes. Then upload it to YouTube.

*I paid for FRAPS nearly 10 years ago and updated it twice. The free/trial version does have some limitations but does work nicely on W7 and W10.

Good luck to all! :drinks:

Lee, I don't want to be a nitpicker, but surely there must be other solutions that vid capture a shot replay to a file in size vastly below 200-400 Mb. Have you explored and described all possibilities here?

Just for information, Lee, the Game DVR comes with Windows 10 and works for the PC. It does seem as though it would be for Xbox, but it is the Xbox app within Windows 10; its use does not require an Xbox. I've used it with Win10 and I don't have an Xbox or any console.

It's been a long time since I used it last, but the Game DVR in Windows 10 is pretty easy to use. I can't comment on the upload to YouTube or wherever it uploads, though as I didn't use the feature.

When I was playing, I'd record my entire round using Plays.TV and later ReLive (AMD video card software at the time) and then re-encode using Handbrake/HEVC to reduce file size. My rounds are recorded at 720p and the file sizes after processing are between 200 and 600 MB. This file size helps shorten the upload time as well, if you're so inclined. I also add "chapters" markers at the start of each hole during the round to allow me to quickly go to whatever hole I may want to watch again.

I have been experimenting with Geforce Experience Screen Capture feature. I have found it to be very straight forward. Practice capturing your Saved Shots and you'll have a nice video saved in your Video folder. Once installed its nothing more than pressing Alt/F9 to start capturing your game. And Alt/F9 to stop the recording. It has come a long way since I tried it five years ago.

About GeForce Experience:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/ge ... xperience/

It also works to capture your screen without a game loaded. You can change the quality of the screen capture too.

The output file is an .MP4 video file. Really nice file size too. I played one hole then pressed Alt/F9 to stop the recording. The file size was close to 300 MB. Trust me, this is a good size for a quality video to upload quickly to YouTube. Quickly is relative to your upload speeds with your ISP.

I never thought I would install GeForce Experience again, but since newer drivers get screwed up by doing it the old manual way, I thought I would try installing GeForce Experience to get the right driver though this progam. It worked nicely.

If you try this please post back and let us know if you enjoy using the Screen Capture feature aka Shadow Play.

To answer this question ahead of time: Does it allow editing of the video? No, it does not allow editing. You would have to find an MP4 free or pay for video editing program. BTW: MP4 is the preferred file format when uploading to YouTube.

NOTE: If you are familiar with YouTube's editor you don't need to own a program to edit a saved shot. The YT Editor allows trimming the beginning and end of a video. It's a nice feature at YouTube.

Hope all that helps. :drinks:

You and many others have asked me "how to make videos". This is just another screen-capture method based on an updated program. I know how much you wanted to learn to make videos in the past, maybe this method will be easier than everything else you tried. :cheesy:

But sincerely. This screen capture with GeForce Experience is free and probably the best way for anyone to get a 60 fps recorded shot that can be uploaded to their YouTube channel in minutes.

Plus, you will get the exact driver for your nVidia card when it's released. That's a bonus too. :good:
