Releasing unfinished courses

Post by bortimus »

I just noticed a 4 year old abandoned alpha test course of mine was released here at PGLS the other day.

It was literally my first time designing a course and it was posted for testing due to mesh collision issues (the ball would occasionally pass through the fairway meshes)

The course was in the beginning stages and then abandoned... that was that.

I have to say it's disheartening to see it show up on the course directory and listed as "Released"

I completely forgot about this file and was never asked for permission for it's release. I'm usually not that big of a stickler about the permission thing but this was an abandoned alpha file from years ago.

There is no information on the course directory of when this file was actually made so it looks like I just threw this shit course together and released it a few days ago!

After all the hard work we designers put into releasing more polished betas and final releases these days, please have the courtesy to check with us about this sort of thing.

I've taken Summerdean down as requested.

It was discovered recently on a players hard drive and after he confirmed it was completely playable I added it to the PGLS Courses database as 'Released' as putting it in as a 'Beta' made no sense. I did note at the time that it was dated October 2016 and thus assumed it was an early work of yours. A similar situation occurred back in June with a few other 'found' courses and this was one of them.

In hindsight I should of asked you about adding it to the PGLS Courses database and can only apologise for the oversight.

Mark,

I appreciate all that you and others do to continue interest in the game, setting up tournaments, etc...

I wanted to ensure that the community was aware that this was not an actual course release.

Thanks again and keep up the great work.
