3DG and NR

Post by mwalimu »

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but what does it mean if a course is 3DG? In particular, if there is both a 3DG and non-3DG version of a course, should I have both? I've also noticed a handful of courses where there's both a NR and non-NR version, what does that mean, and likewise should I have both?

3dg is 3d grass. Nr is non-reflective water.
the NR courses are only a couple that was put out by perfect golf.
nr courses were easier on the FPS and so are the non-3dg.
if you play the tourneys we use both in tourneys at times so yes you might need them all
also if you pick up games in the multiplayer lobby you may want to have them. I would say download them all if you have a video card that can handle the non-reflective and the 3dg.

When setting Tourneys we decided if there was the opportunity to pick the course without the 3DG and R courses as in the past some members were stugling to play them with the memory card they had installed in order for us to provide the same game for all. Has time goes on all courses may contain 3D Grass and so it will then be up to the players to upgrade but at the moment we still have s choice.

Paul is correct I try to always pick the courses all can play
even with lower grade vid cards but there are some courses that are only put out with 3dg
even with lower grade cards, you can adjust the settings to be able to get by with all the courses.
I also have not seen any complaints for quite a while about this issue so I do believe most have good enough graphics
to play all the courses. if not just think of it this way we can't keep living in the 90s.

Thank you all for the explanations. Thus far I have not observed any issues with 3DG or reflective courses in local play on my computer.

The adapter is on-board, not an add-on card. According to System info, it's an AMD Radeon R7 200 Series with 2G RAM.

well I have always had Nvidia cards and know nothing about these Radeon cards
but it sounds like it works fine for you. one of the biggest FPS drain of a course is called The Glen
give it a go and if that works well for you then you dont have to worry about any of the courses
and should just download them all so ya got em. Dancing Rabbit is also a big fps drain try that one to.

I just tried a round on The Glen and didn't notice any issues with graphics or speed, other than that it took unusually long for the course to load at the start of the round.
