Why is it that the same people always top the leader boards? Obviously the tourny organisers don't use the handicaps for midweek challenge, etc? So new people with plus handicaps can never get in the leaderboards. This is totally unfair don't you think? It drives people away from here and to other places like OGT?
quit comparing yourself to the top of the leaderboards and compare yourself to others in the level in which you play.
there are handicap events for the folks that have to have them. i doubt many here will be leaving to go to OGT and pay 40 bucks a year
to play some tourneys, when the game only cost us ol timers 20 bucks way back.
you have to work your way to the top of the boards to get there. you have to look at it this way to many of us have had and been playing this game
coming up on 5years. if memory serves me right you have only been around a few months, you are not going to learn this game that fast. just keep plugging away and you will get there but it takes some time.
Merlin,
It will be the same anywhere you play or any game you play.
The leader-board for me is only to find others that shoot in my range to see how I'm doing. I appreciate those that can shoot consistently. It gives others incentive to do their best and to see those scores can be achieved.
I'm not going to dwell on who is winning or losing. Shooting par is my goal; if I shoot under par then I accomplished something.
I would say to you if you are trying to compete with the couple guys at the top of the leaderboard you are wasting your time and should try the Classic event and the RTS event as that is where handicap is used and where you pretty much see a different leaderboard every week. The guys at the top have been clicking here and the old Links game for a million years and have it down to an art and I applaud them but just dont want to play that way myself anymore. Give yourself a challenge with the RTS swing and learn a different way to play and you will find it much rewarding. I clicked for a million years myself and just lost interest and now enjoy playing RTS only and if I play the Classic event I use the Motion Swing but those are pretty much all I play. There are only about 20 of us playing the RTS tour come over and give it a shot you might like it.
It's not the point I'm making. This system seems biased towards the old timers and new guys are not going to stay when they see the same old names appearing on the leader boards and presumably in the new 'league' format; it should be a level playing field for all not just a few.
It's not biased, that is the nature of the beast in practically most sports or games, newer players have to play more and practice to get better to challenge the guys at the top or just play for fun. You don't start a new playing a new game/sport and expect leaderboards etc to be tilted towards new players, that is why the Classic exists, uses handicaps and evens the playing level, while seeing your handicap hopefully come down as you improve.
In the new Year, some sort of league format will be looked into to give players a Division of similar players to compete against on a weekly basis, then promotion or relegation and will be optional to play, we'll see if it can be done though with Mark's expertise, I am confident.
Until then, the main Order of Merit will always be better players winning with others trying to improve or playing and comparing themselves to others around them. Take NIBNOB for example, he has been steadily making improvements and now competes right at the top (just one I have noticed), also cubbies is now a permanent top 5 fixture...it can be done.
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.
There is no bias towards any players. There are some players for one reason or another that are very good. Ive been on pgls from the start and long since given up on trying to match what these top players are scoring. I just look at the leaderboard for my level and see how im doing. I never look at the order of merit bit pointless that. I do like some events using handicaps but im not sure if the handicap system here is quite right. IE the difference in handicaps for players at the same level dosent seem right at the moment. I for one do not like solo play and as in real golf i think you should have to play 3 rounds with another member to get a handicap. If it was down to me (which it is not) you should have to play at least 1 or 2 rounds with another member in events. So merlin my advise to you is just look at scores from players at your level and try to beat them after all you cant ban players because they are good.
Tks Andy and yes i have worked my way up. started on AM the game was frustrating all most gave up but i am very competitive so i played like 30 games a day writing down how each club would react with every condition, them worked om mastering the meter, once all those things came together, the game became real enjoyable. For me i would set a goal and keep pounding away untill i reached that goal, like the merit a while back i wanted to at least be on the first page finally i found my way there now my goal is top 5 i am at 7, it can be done never give up and keep practicing be persistent and you will be rewarded..:)
There is no bias at all and I will give the OP another way to see and improve. We have recorded rounds in the Mega file at the PP Forum site where you can download and play against recorded rounds. Some of those really good players have a lot of recorded rounds and I have played against a lot of them and you will find what makes them better is their short game. I have played against Affo recorded rounds and he misses fairways and greens just like the rest of us but he makes putts and chips I don't and that is the difference. This game requires lots of practice and for those of us who have been here since the begining know this well. Play some of those recorded rounds and you will see what I am talking about.
