Rd2 pin 18 holes

Post by Carl Lapin »

Ridicullous this pin at 18 hole

After 17 holes I'm -10 and at the 18 on green in regulation I putt 10 time and never able to get close to the pin, it roll over or roll down 5 feet below at 45' from the pin.

Forget it I will not finish this round.

Hi Carl

Each week I look at the PGA Tour schedule to see where they are playing. Players have said that they like to keep venues as near to the course used in PGA tour if Possible. This Weeks tour is in Silverado Napa CA. This course we do not have in Napa the only one we do have is Trapmont. I asked the corse setter to be careful with greens and no Stimp 14, which he did, but the greens are so bad its impossible to find a flat lie. I was please to go round in -3 on round 2. its for this reason I dont often use it. So my oppologies that it affected you game, you wont see that course again for some time

Seriously though, Trapmont (Oakmont) is nowhere near Napa California. No big deal, just wondering where the setter made the comparison.

My only question is why was this not seen when testing the pins as that is what we do correct. I setup a few for old RTS Tour and tested every pin on every green to ensure this wouldn't happen. If you get a pin on the side of a hill or crown your done and Oakmont is known to have lots of those on their greens but never puts pins where they are. Its painstakingly long to do it but almost a must. It can as we see be very frustrating but the only consolation is that everybody has the same setup but when it's you that's getting shafted it still sucks and I have been there myself.

The problem with that hole is there is no flat spot and it would have been tough for you to see it no matter what. Again we all play the same course and there is no advantage of disadvantage for anybody so it's not anyone's fault and the people who setup these events get blamed wrongly. This golf course when setup for Major is the hardest course in the world because of the greens. I would love to see this course used for the Tough Stuff event with 14 Stimp and hard conditions and then we would see what the members of this course feel every day. Lol.

Finally after my frustration I calm down and finish it with +7 (11) at the hole #18

You're right Dunk, however I was not blaming all of them just the #18 at rd 2

I finally threw in the towel on this course after #4 in round 3. An 8 on a par 5, after being 15 feet off the green in 2. After that, I just stuck that loft as high as it would go and cranked the meter as far as it would go for the rest of the round. These are not medium greens, these are very very difficult greens, and for those who shot 6, 7, 8, and even -9 in these conditions, you're one hell of a player. I can't understand the concept of "normal" greens. I have played real golf for over 55 years and have never seen the ball bounce 30 feet in the air on "normal" greens, with a lofted club.
So you play short of the green to bounce it on and the fairways are hard and the ball caroms off the green. What is the secret in this game to hold a green. The REAL PGA pros would be screaming at the USGA for these conditions. And they'd have a right to do so. Don't even get me started on a 282 yard par 3 in to the wind. C'mon man.
