Team play

Post by jspirate »

I know this topic has come up before, but I am bringing it up again :joy:

In my opinion the most fun to be had in this game is in the alt shot or team formats. I would luv to see more of of these tournies.

The participation isn't always very good so maybe it just takes too much time? Or maybe its just a lack of understanding of how to play?

My pard and I play all 4 rounds of the alt-shot back to back. We are both quick players though, but I still have a hard time believing its a time issue.

Heck, I would luv to see some best-ball rounds also. Those do take longer though and its harder to create separation in the field.

Anyway, can we beat the dead horse one more time and discuss alt-shot participation? Does anyone have any ideas on how we could grow the alt-shot crowd? Maybe some education/communication? It wouldn't be too hard to put together a 30 second video that provides some direction and could maybe stimulate some interest? Mouse golf - if you read this, you and I could set a round and vid capture the first hole???

Grasping at straws here and looking for ideas...

I think timing is an issue here.

Getting a PairUp played can be done with just the single pairing and as you always have the same partner you talk to each other to arrange times to play.

However if arranging an Alternate 9 ladder match say, this requires a further 2 players be around but again if they are regular Alternate 9 players times can be arranged.

M & G in my opinion is much under used at PGLS and could be utilised to arrange such matches ...

I use meet and greet and its a great tool and can help, but its not gonna get it done in this case. The problem with meet and greet is that "its a timing issue." If I log in and go to meet and greet and no one is there, do I wait until someone shows up and hope they want to play what I want to play alt shot? I've done that before while playing tournies. I’ve left it open and monitored and I've had success, but more often then not I end up using other means. That’s just because the small PG population is spread out across so many time zones.

If there is no new reason to start using M&G, then there is no real reason to expect the traffic there to increase.

Mark, I am not trying to criticize you or your efforts. There is no way I could do what you do. The PG community owes you a debt of gratitude and I am damn glad you do what you do. This is more about me – LOL. I want more alt-shots.

My thoughts are very basic… if people who have not played alt-shot try playing alt-shot - they might just like it. We know that timing is an issue and we know that M&G ain’t getting it done. I am not sure that’s this should end of the discussion though...

well i have often thought about how to get more people involved in altshot play.
here is a thought what about a 72 hole pair up tourney played over a month long time period.
a month would give teams plenty of time to play and it might get some new folks involved in team play.
i would be more then happy to include this in my duties here at PGLS and set and moderate it?

It seems to me (pairs event numbers are going up) that people just playing with their partner at any time works, but trying to get people to play with/against another pair is where things get tougher...an online pvp league was tried here before and was just too much hassle.

Mark...you're going to love this....i'm going to get my thinking cap on, got an initial idea  . Of course it could well come to nothing, but I enjoy trying to come up with things.

*off to my bunker*
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

Well, there is a pair up tourny already though, right? That said, I would play in another and I bet my pard would also.

More, more, more haha

Edit: I have a 3 day weekend coming up. Maybe I can find some time to cut a video. I just want to make sure that the basic understanding of how to get into a game and how its played isn't a hurdle.

I know Monsieur Niblick and I would play another alt shot tourney, it is our favourite for sure.

Well I wondered how long it would be before someone mentioned the Guilds Terry

However they weren't about playing individual games as a team. It was a group of players under 1 name called a Guild where your Guild got the win and not the individual.
