I went by precipitation, temps, and wind speed. 14 stimp is almost unplayable, but if the weather is hot, dry, and high wind (drying effect) that would be my choice. 11 stimp would be the other extreme - lots of rain, low wind, and low temps. So...mostly 12 and 13 stimps would be the norm for me.

Historical pin placements would be more important to me, if I was able to play along with the PGA pros (MOO).

Totally agree with that, Anything below 13 stimp will not be doing the course justice, bang on correct. And, should be using local weather

However I think we could take some stiffness from the course if conditions were a little more consistent. Hard fairways and soft greens one day to the complete reverse of that the next surely could not happen in RL. Generally when it rains it softens both greens and fairways, not one or the other,,,,,,,,, well thats what happens where I live. Sure it might not affect all of the course but we cannot apply that here.

My opinion is this, (remember this is just an example) IF the weather is fine and hot over Thursday and Friday they should be normal and/or hard fairways and greens and Stimp 13, then for example a big mother storm comes through Friday night. The conditions for the Saturday should probably reflect that and fairways might come back to soft or normal, stimp back to maybe 11 or 12, remember this place has traditional quick greens so I wouldn't be going back to 9 or 10. Then as it drys out even more on the Sunday, fairways back to normal, same as greens, maybe hard and stimp back to 12 or 13

I would be steering away from hard greens and a 14 stimp, one or the other but not together.

Just my opinion

Agree with you Jim - the Soft and Hard selections in the game are extremes. Early talk about these (back in 2013, Mike Jone I think) were that these were placeholders. One should not combine soft and hard, fairways or greens, due to a geophysical disconnects in the way a golf ball bounces and spins on a pliable surface. Moisture, temperature, wind speed (convective effect) dictate how dry a green surface gets in real world physics.

The designers of these courses planted the pins with historical placement in mind (this is Augusta after all), and I would hope they did some research into green hardness and stimps to replicate what they saw on TV. The trick, for us, is to use what a designer has given us to pick and replicate a combination of pin locations, green hardness, and stimps for each hole. No small feat.

Got a feeling there's going to be a heatwave for the next 2 weeks...hard, hard, 14 it is then!!! :cheesy:
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

If it was going to be set like a real belter, well bring it on. Don't worry me if I don't break 80. I'll make sure I've plenty of wine and lets do this.

Okay, I now need to re-phase my last post,

'Don't worry me if I don't break 100', I'll just need even more wine.

I would agree with Davefc92v.. I set course according to the weather conditions of the locality of the course during that week, that way we get a variety. Playing and watching golf many a time the professionals get near perfect conditions to play at and scoring is very good, I'm not one of the players who considers that every game should be a stiff challenge.. I play this game for enjoyment.. just one thing though I do, We know that the wind in PG is not accurate enough so take that into account when setting

I wish to make a plea for those who are not on top of there game. Like others i'm not consistant enough with my snap I can be spot on and next minute iether well early of late ( Hand/eye coodination can be slow). Also I strugle putting. Augusta is a difficult course at the simplest of times so Hard Hard 14 is a nightmare plus its not realistic Groundstaff have the means to make any play perfect no matter what the weather is like.

I would say follow the weather conditions for the area at the time. I like to enjoy my play and complete with a reasonable score, this weeks PGLS Tour course is a very tough one especially on the greens and my score of +32 after 2 rounds does nothing for me and others around me, It means I will not complete any more rounds which is rare for me. but there is no point carrying on on conditions that is crucifying me. So please at this time when lifes difficult enough lets all enjoy our games.
