Hosting a Game at Steam

Post by charlie »

This should be an easy question, but finding a guide for PG or Steam on questions like this is a bit of a challenge.

Randy G and I played the Divisions Pair-Up tonight with no problems connecting, except the White Course is laggy; but it's laggy even when I play it by myself. We were able to complete the round and post a score.

After the round we both tried to host a casual round in the Multiplayer tab. Each of us (in different attempts) was able to create the game and send the invitation. Each of us was able to respond to the other's invitation and join. However, in neither case - when I hosted and again when RandyG hosted - could we get the round to launch. Hovering my cursor over the start button gave the message: Players not ready or game requirements not met.

But neither of us can figure out why this is the case. I did notice that our colors were different in the tiny box next to our names, but we tried it with the same colors and with different colors. No change in result.

We set the round with maximums of 2 player, and maximum of 8 players - again no difference.

What step(s) are we missing?

The only thing I can think of is did you try closing PG and closing Steam, the reopening Steam.

Also, although I can't see why this would make a difference, did you try using 'JOIN GAME' by clicking on the hosts name in the PG Lobby.

Charlie and I didn't have any issues getting the game up for the Division - Pairs and the reason we tried to have just a friendly is because during both
division pairs rounds I had a bad case of lag and meter jitters. I hardly have this issue.
We wanted to try a course we knew was smooth.

Mark, Dave, I think we tried the join tab, mostly it was an invite from one of us to play and accept the invite.

As Charlie said, there isn't any kind of procedure that we could find to follow here in the forums.
A guide for new online players would be cool, this is new to me.

Just to clarify; we were using the steam chat to set up the rounds. I use the 3-click and Charlie uses MS.

Thx

It sounds like you both had the same team color. Pair-ups are tourneys designed for teams, but you can't play teams in casual unless you have two teams. Sounds obvious, but it is an easy mistake to make.

Rick is correct. Same colors when play team need to be two different colors when playing against each other.

We tried it both ways. First, I didn't change the colors so I thought that might be the problem - mine was red, Randy's was yellow. So then I made the colors the same; no difference in outcome. In neither case could we get rid of the message "players not ready or game requirements not met."

We exited the game once and came back in, but that did not fix the problem. We did not exit Steam and try to come back in. I wonder if, because we had the same colors in the Divisions Pair Up, that stuck. I think not because when we tried to set up the friendly, my box was red, Randy's was yellow and we tried to start that way with no success. On the second attempt I changed Randy's box to red to match mine, but no success. But maybe we should have exited Steam too and then come back in.

You may want to check your settings and make sure you allow any swing type and difficulty since you both play different ones.

Good suggestion. The default setting when you create a game is any difficulty. I don't see a setting for swing type though.

We tried to create the game in Multiplayer. This is the correct place, right? I even tried Solo Play because it permits more than one player, but I think this just lets you add computer players; I haven't used Solo Play for anything other than when I play a casual game by myself.
