Experiment over

Post by Greensboronclion »

Well I played the first two rounds at Muirfield with my controller and shoot 78-79 and play round 3 with 3C and shoot 69. I guess the reason I was the only one playing Controller was for that reason as sorry but its just to dang tough to control the ball and I will say that three times during my 3C round I got the meter jitters and couldn't stop it at 6 oclock or I would have been even lower and that's why I quit 3C in the first place as the meter was kind of off to much. Love the controller but sorry shooting par is a good score and once in a while you nail a good one but just not conductive to scoring. In the end its no fun shooting near 80 so I will click from in events and just fool around with the controller. For the record I use an official Xbox controller.

I will continue to play as long as the game keeps the 3 click setup.

If the developers ever got rid of it as an option it will be game over for me.

Playing the game as a golfer more than a gamer, analog does a better job of simulating the swing. Controlling the animation to make a swing is more immersive than clicking a meter for me. But as you stated obtaining competitive score takes a lot of practice. The short throw of the stick makes it tough to acquire a repetitive controllable swing. But it can be done by maintaining a rigid thumb position and swing arc. Then like gripping a club keeping same grip, tilt , and rotation of the controller which all can be used to vary the ball flight.

The most challenging element with a controller is distance control. Mostly due to the power being set on a curve. In other words, the first 3/4 of the stick movement equals 50% power, which helps with touch shots because of the short throw. But this makes hitting 100% or a set % above or below near impossible to repeat. Also makes the short game and long putts much more challenging, plus having the speed of the stick varying the power with these touch shots and putts.

For this the Controller also requires some course management to avoid those yardages that require partial power. Mainly 30 to 90 yards where making birdie is rare. This is where having a linear power meter has it's advantages, 100 yards in and with the short game.

This game by far has the best coded controller swing I have ever seen with the addition of club head speed already coded in. The issue it is not being utilized, probably for non analog compatibility. To get less than Max gain with a full swing you got to swing the club practically slow motion. It's a shame because this could also be used to control the spin to play various shots.

Enough for now, partner will be on soon to play some tournament rounds together. Happy Golfing!

Wirenut you are correct and after the meter freezing twice today while playing Muirfield I might as well swing the controller. Most unstable meter I have ever played and it wasn't always like that just getting worse the last six months or so it seems. Controller just so much more immersive than clicking and your correct we cant compete but might as well play and just have fun. I feel for the 3C guys as I know some have complained about the meter but not all but its there and its a problem unfortunately. And yes distance control with the controller is a bear and so is putting tho I am better than before.

Are you using the free cam to setup your putting view? It's a must as far as I'm concerned to view the length of swing. Linked is the thread on adjusting the free cam speed, way to sensitive by default.
