PG and the coming year

Post by Seasider47 »

Hi All

Playing here on PG has meant so much to me, with the restrictions of Covid it has been a companion and a challenge. There are many problems with the game brought about by the lack of regular maintenace and lack of involvement by the developers and we have lost many members to reival games but depite all of this PG to me is still number 1 golf game. It offers a full range of game modes (including 3 click that many rivals dont have) some fantastic communitty designed courses and in the case of PGLS an abundance and variety of competitions to play.

I have always been a 3 clicker, not I will add the best but with my age that can be expected even though I have seen great improvements recently, (I can make shots as good as anyone on my day but consistency is lacking). I have enjoyed playing at amateur level, the compactness of the group as meant great competition between players, but I do expext a promotion to Pro at sometime as I comtinue to improve. Although I expect joining Pro will be extremely difficult for me to improve I will except the challenge and try to raise my standard.

With difficult times ahead I will remain with PG, I see no need to change, I have made many friends here and with new players still joining who knows what the future holds. I would like to wish all friends and members a happy new year and hope we will be around to wish in 2022. Good Luck all.

don't worry about the jump to Pro it is really not a big deal.
the meter is the same speed and the shots play the same the most important thing when you make the jump is hitting the mark
and when you do switch start out hitting 100% and not going over as it brings much more penality when you go over and miss the mark.
even the best players miss the mark learning how to play the rough and the sand shots and flops are so important in this game. i have been watching your scores and you have made quite an improvement over the last few years and you are well on your way to becoming a top player in this game.
always remember we all have bad rounds and bad days when you hit a bad shot just let it go and don't carry it with you to the next shot or hole.
good luck in the new year.

Thanks Dave I think the hardest test I will face is the not being able to let the meter go past and so allowing me the chance to rehit. Lol the brain is not up to full speed as you get holder and often find myself well overhitting shot.. Just something I will have to get used to.

As we all worked our way through the difficulty levels, no longer having the shot-aid of allowing the down-swing to go past the six (snap) and try again was the biggest adjustment. However, you'll get use to it very quickly because you'll hit about a dozen shots and allow the downswing to go past the "snap" aka (six) and that experience will give you a "jolt" that will be embedded in your rote memory.

At least at Pro you still can aim from the overhead cam. As for us Tour Pro players there are no aiming-aids. We have to aim on the forward cam just like we would on a real golf course. (except we don't have pointer out there)

One thing about progressing up the difficulty levels. When you want to impart fade or draw on the ball during putting, driving, short and long irons it is much easier to intentionally miss the snap by a few pixels and get the results you want. I like to call it: "an intentional miss-snap aiming method")

BTW: Appreciate your work here at PGLS. :good:

Last night I played my first ever round for a PGLS tournament, and it was a disaster. New players here evidently start out at Pro and I'm used to playing at Amateur, so apparently I have to play enough bad rounds at Pro level to get "demoted" to Amateur.

mwalimu - are you having trouble hitting the snap or figuring out the proper club for the conditions? Or is it the more difficult putting?

Actually I did reasonably well at putting. There's certainly room for improvement but it's not where I was getting into trouble this round.

Big issue #1 was how wildly the ball would veer off if I missed the snap by even a little bit. Seems to be a lot worse on Pro than I'm used to it being on Amateur. Fairways hit was 1 in 7 (excluding the 2 par-3s).
Big issue #2 was that the club distance chart I was following was way off on the chip and some of the other short game distances. In one case a chip that according to the chart should have landed me near the hole took me farther past it than I had been before the shot.
GIR was 0 for 9. I managed to 1-putt a couple of holes. One was my only par of the round and another was a bogey-save after my tee shot went for a swim. Finished the round at +14; two really bad holes accounted for +8 of that.

I also misinterpreted the tourney rules to say that I'd be able to play multiple rounds and it would score the best, when apparently that's not the case and the aforementioned round is the only one I'm allowed (or at least I can't figure out how to reset it so I can try again). I also attempted to end the round so I could start over after the first really bad hole, and I couldn't figure out how to do that either (even though I've done it before in local solo play). I didn't try that hard to figure it out because I thought I'd get to play another round.

That is correct, John. Otherwise it would be considered a Tour Pro Aid. "Let your conscience be your guide".
