Todays Tournaments - TWO?

Post by IanD »

Currently seeing a December PGLS Open that is allowing me entry (at Celtic Manor)
and also January at Cypress Point....

Which is which, as they both state PGLS Open...
Also, the December one when I enter, places me at Amateur Level...
Is that right..?

I played this after it had reset to the Cypress Point course and it set me at amateur even though I am pro on here. It posted my score which I didn't think it would do and was then unable to get past 50% when loading the second round.

Is there something wrong here ?

Yes.... it's the same for everyone.
RD 2 won't load past 50% either and they hope to have it fixed for Monday onwards..

No, nothing wrong with the level. Presently this event is set for an entry level to allow most to participate, even if some are below their chosen or assessed level of play.

We will be reviewing the format of this competition shortly and changes will be coming. Hopefully we will have news to circulate about the changes before too long.

I appreciate I haven't been here two minutes, lol, but like the idea of cut tournaments.

I just personally feel that a cut line of 90% of the field is a bit high. For example if 40 play you only cut 4 players. Might as well make it a no cut event in that case, lol.

Have you considered lowering the cut level to maybe 70% or 75%. Makes the cut more relevant and adds a bit more pressure to players knowing if they don't perform, they ain't going to get paid.

Hi Daz,

Yes I must admit that the cut line may be a bit high. The original idea was to have it so the cut was x number of shots from the current leader but that could of proven to be a tourney killer.

Rather a lot is happening behind the scenes atm so will take a look into it asap.

In looking over past PGA tournaments, it appears their cut line is the top 70 players plus ties. In last years PGA Championship, there were 156 entries. The top 70 represented 44.87% of the field. I would recommend a cut line be at 45%. There are 38 players in our Open Championship.
45% of the field would mean 17 players would make the cut. Your current cut at 143 or better, is 65.78%.

Just some thoughts driving in from Cleveland this morning (borrowed from Arsenio Hall)

Warren... unsure of your figures, but it's likely me. Are you assuming those who have yet to play RD2 will or won't ?
I see only one Player over the 143 score, and if those yet to play RD2 repeat their scores, it's likely only one more player will miss the cut over 143.

For purposes of what scores are worthy of progressing past the Cut.. I personally feel the figure of 143 is far too high. This is a Hacker level Tournament, and you don't have to break par to make the Cut... doesn't seem right?

I know Mike is making several changes at present, and hopefully this Tournament will spring into life and become more challenging with those additions.

Hoping this hasn't been pushed too far behind in terms of any future changes occurring ?

Personally, I think I have given up this Tournament for February... I am sitting at -4 with a Cut predicted at +4. I can easily make that.... (so why don't I...? ).

Unsure really... there is little to entice me back, unless the challenge is harder. I don't mind failing.... I'd rather be Cut than fail to play, so this feels awkward stating I'm unlikely to finish RD2. I simply feel there could be more offered in this Tournament.

The use of Karen isn't likely helping, as I do feel it isn't quite a Course appropriate for a Cut Open Tournament. It can sort a few of us out certainly... as one poor hole will see your scores plummet. But to simply hit +2 isn't enough of a challenge. We should be clearing the field of those who fail to achieve Par.

This in itself, may also see scores more appropriate for a site that may need to adjust players levels further, as they improve. My failing to complete RD2 doesn't help those recent Player Adjustments (PRO). If anything, it perhaps makes them more inaccurate and incomplete.

So... with a more cheekier grin.... are there plans afoot in the near future or further down the road?
