I have Steam and Perfect Golf setup & running on the same SSD SATAIII drive as the Windows 10 OS.
The courses are on an internal 7200 rpm HD & PG accesses them via Link Shell Extension.
What I'd like to know is whether having the courses on the slower drive will affect the rendering speed & performance of the game?
Also wondering if the courses were stored on a USB 3.0 drive or an SDXC card would game performance be affected?
Does PG Course location affect game performance?

Re: Does PG Course location affect game performance?
When you start playing a course eg when it goes from 0% to 100% prior to showing the first hole, the whole course is loaded into RAM on your system.
If the courses are on an SSD drive then the above part would load quicker than a 7200 rpm SATA drive. In theory storing the courses on a USB3 drive and making sure it's connected to a USB3 port on your device should make it faster than a SATA drive but it is entirely down to the capabilities of your device.
Use a program like Crystal Disk Mark to test speed throughputs ...

Re: Does PG Course location affect game performance?
Thank you Mark. I didn't know the specific course being played was loaded into RAM when it is selected to be played.
This answers my question perfectly.
