The Links at Bodega Harbour

Post by BSilvernail »

I have a beta ready for my recreation of the The Links at Bodega Harbour course, which was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. I would not recommend playing the course with dynamic skies turned on. There is a visual bug with the ocean water and the pano terrain that only shows up with dynamic skies. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a solution for that issue yet.

I’ll be curious to hear if anyone has problems with performance. I’ve done my best to optimize the course, but between all of the houses and bushes, there is a lot going on. Aside from certain holes that overlook most of the landplot, my framerate has generally been very good.

Please let me know if you encounter any problems or issues with the course. Here is a download link:

Played 18 holes in a multiplayer yesterday and we had no problems. Course plays very well and is fairly hard. In the beginning we had some small lags but we all weren't sure if it was the course or simply the ISP. So thunbs up from German Golfers :)

Thank you to everyone who took time to playtest Bodega and provide such detailed feedback. I have a new version of the course, which I think is probably final, but I have labeled it a new beta just in case I missed something. Here are the main changes I've made:
  • A pin for hole 1 that was mistakenly on the second green has been fixed.
  • More 2D grass objects were added to holes 2, 3, 4, 5, 11 and 12.
  • The ocean shader settings were changed to make the water more interesting from a distance. I did notice an error from Unity which I think is tied to these new settings, but there doesn't seem to be any adverse affects from the error.
  • I did some additional elevation smoothing in spots.
  • I further simplified my two grass SpeedTree objects, but unfortunately didn't notice an increase in performance around the marsh holes.

Please let me know of any issues that come up with this version of the course. Thanks.
