Re: New Players
No real way of knowing Alan. Games can be downloaded that bypass the use of Steam, removing the requirement to purchase it.

Re: New Players
They should do Mark. What the players who illegally download PG cannot do is play multiplayer games as that requires Steam integration.
Most it seems join PGLS to just download the courses.

Re: New Players
Could some be simulator players? I have read that in the TGC 19 and PGA 2K21 series, those courses are compatible with simulator play. I don't know about JNPG.
Re: New Players
What about enforcing the Steam ID rule. No courses if they are not official members of Steam.

Re: New Players
You know I was going to chime in here.
Stop having tournaments with settings (with the exception of the gimmick tournaments like Hazard, Tough Stuff, CTP, etc.) that are never found in real life. I've been playing online golf for over 33 years, and my experience (not a dead balls fact, just my experience) is that mixed conditions are not what they purport to be, i.e. soft/hard isn't really either of them. All mixed conditions play different, with a little bit of both. I could show you film of the Divisions round I played recently with soft/hard conditions. So, in this game, with those conditions, you can't land on the green and expect it to hold, unless the pin is deep beyond the front, so the resulting roll will hold the green. So, naturally with the pin 15 feet from the front, and hard greens, your option is to hit short and hope for a bounce on that will get you close. Good idea, eh? No, the soft fairway grabs the ball and you're at a dead stop 20 feet off the green, or you hit the rough that's in front of the green, and you're dead. So, what does PGLS do? They put on soft/hard conditions with pins in front, and rough (no fringe) in front. Either short or long, take your pick. Now, before Perculasshole has his say, I understand that guys playing 3 click with a controller have them either programmed to never miss a snap, so they can always hit long and make the putt, or somehow they are just luckier than anyone else. (time for NIBNOB to speak up here)
My point is this. The goal is to attract new players. I think most of them get turned off by two things. The absurd conditions for a game that should be fun, and, the lack of any tutorials by the good players to explain what they do, and why. Its not required, I understand, but you'd think they would have a vested interest in keeping the game growing. The laughable tutorial about the BLI by Mike Jones, is just that..laughable.
These are my opinions, so don't flame me. Perhaps PGLS could send out a survey of sorts to all registered players. After asking if they play the tournaments (we know the vast majority do not), ask them to say why, via a checklist or their own short narrative.

Re: New Players
Pollyanna's Post........
I agree that soft/hard with front pins is tough, not fun for anyone, and new players would really struggle....we all struggle with that setup, thats why the setters use it, too make it challenging for players that have played this game for years.......
I use a mouse 3 click......controller 3 click is doable but not as good as mouse......there are no programs that make you hit snap every time....why would anyone want that?.....when putting i always aim to just miss snap(early/late) as this makes the ball hold its line(less break).....also when trying to draw/fade a approach around a tree i use snap miss to get extra turn......

Re: New Players
There's one in the game software. 100% Computer player. I think its naive to think no one has hacked it.NIBNOB wrote: Sun Apr 17, 2022 9:10 am ......there are no programs that make you hit snap every time....why would anyone want that?....
I play an online hunting game for 12 years that is still supported daily by the original developers. They have sophisticated up-to-date software to thwart cheaters, yet it still happens.
