Thanks for taking the time to voice your opinions gents.

If you don't like them, simply don't look at them?

It is for people who enjoy this sort of thing and it's not on this website, only titbits will be shared here. Nothing will be put permanently anywhere on this site unless Mike/Mark decide they want to, there is no pressure from me.

The aim is not to negatively effect the community, but to add something for those that enjoy numbers etc.
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

As Bladerunner commented, there are leaber-boards for events - that is all any of us needs to see. Also as Bladerunner said, we all get a shot at the top of a leader-board and that's plenty of recognition for each of us in any official event. World Rankings are absolutely not needed and I would impress upon others who are reading this that any graphics, screenies or links to a 3rd part World Ranking site not be permitted.

This is not part of PGLS's concept of creating a fun and interactive community. There are so many reasons to now allow World Ranking information on this site. I'll mention the obvious: #1 ego. We all feel good when we do well in a tournament or ladder match and see our names near or at the top of the leaderboard. That's all we should see at the end of an event, period.

Nothing personal about you Affo: I just never liked World Rankings. They crush morale, create contempt and cause derision.

They should not exist anywhere on this site and therefore do not need to be avoided.

Again Affo. Create a WR if you like but send the link to your buddies through PM or email who want to keep an eye on those stats.

However,
If admin decides at the end of this discussion to give you permission to post links to a 3rd party site - then, so be it. I will abide by their decision.

I agree with that, if one places well or wins a tournament that's enough. There name is up there on the leader-board for that week, next week its someones else,s turn.
Asbsolutey correct. A rotation of who is at the top a of leader-board happens each time a new event occurs. Having a long standing leader-board aka (World Rank) is not healthy for a respected online golf community.

Well said BaldeRunner. :good:

Whooa...

I'll fight for anyone's right to post upon a public forum, their work or view. Crusher... some of your wording is far too harsh. You are quite within your right to state you would not like to see them, but I for one, would oppose your comment "They should not exist anywhere...".

So, Affo... please feel free to continue and I'm interested. You're right, in so far as not agreeing with how you may work things. However, I'm personally mature enough to realise not everything in life will sit kindly with me lol. I do find interest though, and those that feel Stats will divide communities, should not look at them. If any topic heads into the statistical analysis they seek to avoid, then unfortunately, you cannot comment with the support of statistics. You can still voice an opinion however... but be aware the stats may not back your opinion up.

There... nothing wrong in any of that is there lol...?

As for the nature of the Stats Affo... you'll never get a true true indication, but as you decided, you get a reasonable snapshot. My comparison to Toonarooni is something of a challenge. In so far as, we rarely competed in the same Tournaments. That alone means we're hard to judge if we had a face off, and as I've likely competed more, recently, I would sit higher eventually in the rankings, based upon participation.

We could discuss it all day long regarding the variations and issues I guess... but keep us posted where possible. Always intrigued with Stats, and I'm sure many are too.

Everyone,

Affo has every right to post them here at PGLS and has already clearly stated ...
If you don't like them, simply don't look at them?

Affo edited the OP with the following sentence:

Spoiler - if you are not into Rankings in any way, press back on your browser and save yourself some time, this will not interest you!

That did not exist before I read his comment.

Let me be perfectly clear. I suggested being able to view anyone's history: rounds played, birdies, eagles, aces, putts, wins/losses. That would be enough for any of us to be able to learn more about the players' history here.

As for the known players who spend hours and hours beyond the regular players free-time allowance for this game, they will accumulate points to stay in the top #1, #2, #3, #4, #5 postions. The average golfer gets really tired of seeing who is supposedly the "best" players in the world IF they saw chart or graphics added to this site.

This World Ranking is not just about skill (dubious at times), it's also about the myriad of events (for whatever reasons) a handful of players will be able to start and finish. see here> http://onlinegolftour.net/

Was I harsh? Yes. I became harsh once I saw this so called "spoiler alert".

As it stands now Admin has approved his posting URL's to a 3rd party site for people to view their standings. I said I would accept their decision about this World Ranking concept. I said it, I read it and I accept it.

Now everyone can move on....

Thanks Crusher for the green light

For info, that opening line was always there, only thing edited was underlined by the "edit" at the bottom. It was the first line to hopefully stop people wasting their time

Next update will be on Thursday probably after this week's events and I may tweak the % penalties per level a bit to reduce the differences a bit.
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Little changes made:

After receiving a suggestion and testing, points penalties for each level have been adjusted to:

100% - Tour Pro
70% - Pro
40% - Amateur
20% - Hacker

Also, a little cosmetic change to the actual leaderboard with movement arrows to indicate a rise, fall or New Entry into the chart.
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:
