Football Super League

Post by Affo »

Well that's livened up a Monday morning!

Personally, I cannot believe that those great clubs are sacrificing all the history of the National and European games to create a closed shop North American style league without promotion and relegation, though they must have thought it all through and must have expected the negative backlash and decided it would still pay to do it!.

Release timing tied into East Asia and North American awake times interesting enough...wonder if that is where the money is coming from? I can see see half empty stadiums and streaming becoming the norm if it all happens.

Were the players even considered? Talk of being banned to play in the big comps, though maybe just threats, you would hope would not sit well with the players?

One thing for sure, the turf war has only just begun, going to be a summer of bitter legal disputes no doubt.

Glad i'm involved with non league football now! (plug - Hamworthy Utd FC www.hamworthyunitedfc.com)
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

Yep was reading all about this earlier today. I also hear another 3 clubs will be added to the current 12.

I'm pretty sure not so long back the Premier League clubs were complaining about the number of games they had to play each season. Now it seems that 6 of those clubs want to play more ??

I still think this is a ploy to get more money out of the games authorities, the annoncement comes on the same day that the leagues meet to decide on the futre coincident that lol. Its been done before

Totally agree with the sentiment here. I’ve followed football all my life, and part of the magic comes from underdog stories and the fact that promotion and relegation shake things up every season. Locking clubs into an exclusive league without that aspect just sucks the soul out of it. Feels like more of a money play than anything that benefits fans or players. And yeah, the timing of the release seems way too strategic. I’ve been looking around lately for ways to still enjoy matches in person even with all this drama going on. If you're trying to catch games without crazy markups, you can see here how to get tickets that don’t always follow inflated resale trends.

I don't give a fuk about the wars going on with the dull game called soccer where I come from - can't be bothered watching a 3 hour game when the score is usually 0 -0 - that sucks - I don't understand how there is any following to this dull game
