STATS & Personal Stats

Post by IanD »

Okay... gonna be a long post('ish)... and hoping the regulars come in and offer their thoughts (hint Affo lol)..

So.. what we have here within PGLS, is a home for PG. It is now collecting Stats, and Affo has done his bit in the specials too.
What I feel is missing, is the Career side. I wonder if we can boost our Personals too, and incorporate them all, into something the actual game can't even offer! Could PGLS, create something the game actually craves...?

What does everyone see when they visit PGLS?
They are presented with the Forums, and the sidebar Stats of LeaderBoards and Ladders.
It's not a bad presentation, and I'm not aiming to knock this site at all. I seriously enjoy this site and respect all being done here. If I didn't make this suggestion, I'd be doing myself a disservice and how it could enhance an experience maybe enjoyed by all. It requires alot of work though, and that's often where things falter..

What would you like to see, when logging in to PGLS?
For me...personally, a full Career Mode Stat page. Add to that, some of latest posts from the Forums, and I'd be made up.
So, basically, what we currently have, but in reverse... too many forums (with little happening), and not enough of the actual gameplay.

How and specifically what, needs adding?
Well, this is only a quick rough suggestion. So, suggestions are welcome too...
Once logged in, the usual options would be available regarding the Tournies/Ladders etc and the M&G areas, but this addition too:

Somehow, and I don't know the exact way the site operates... but enticing us back to the site for improvements to our Stats may also boost page loads. It also creates demand on the server, so I'm unsure of the balance required. But...
If after each round, the data updated to display your recent changes, you could enjoy any PB's or improvements to your game. The site would recognise your improvement and highlight it. It would then work hand in hand with the actual game.

Details...?
The ability to keep Course Records, isn't currently available. If it was... and we had the ability to monitor what scores were our best (in 4 Round totals, and Personal Bests etc), then we could begin seeing data from Courses in terms of how many rounds have been played on X course etc. I know PP gain that data, but for us to see what courses are favourites and played more than others, would aid the Courses section, and allow introductions to Achievements. Achievements could be added periodically and across this site, regarding sub-scores for specific Courses or Tournaments/Ladders etc - making this site soooooooo unique, the game could never ignore it.
Not only Course records, but your Round totals, and your strengths and weaknesses. The game data isn't available to break down how well you score or hit, using specific clubs, but it could do in the future. For now, we have alot of data that isn't highlighted as well as it could. For example... How many Rounds have you played here in 2017? Do you know...? That data is within the Stats on site now.... who's played the most....? That isn't available..but it can be if we had a script for it.

There are many ways we can display information, and many ways we can make milestones for achievements. This would aid in rewarding players, for not only their scores, but participation. The more that play, the more chance of them being rewarded, and the greater the game see's more players participate and continue playing. The shelf life of a game is within the community playing it.

So.... for now... it's likely something too far for Mark to spend all his time upon. But, if I don't ask... we'll never know lol...

Other peoples thoughts?

First of Ian, great post, plenty to think about. Like you say, if you don't mention/ask, you don't know what can be achieved.

One quick point..something like who played most rounds in each month or year to date is available from the PGLS original stats as each column is sortable ;)

I would love to add, and can add, courses to the numbers I've done, but....with the differing tees and conditions, it makes comparisons difficult. I did have a play with valuing all the different conditions to get a round toughness score and compare those, but couldn't get to a point I was happy to share but I may revisit that.

Will have another read through and ponder some more...
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

Yeah, I knew the Rounds Total was there and Bowfinger is the highest... but I needed or hoped a few more posts upon this thread would ensure people tried using the Stats lol! I wonder how many do.... and hope we all do.

However, seeing the number of rounds participated each time you login, makes you feel more a 'part' of this site. Those playing more rounds, could see their titles change, or achievements gained, purely by being part of this site. At the moment, we have the Order of Merit for participation, however, we should recognise that, and reward more. That initial loading login page, could give more... I want it to embrace the fact, you came back and belong to this site.

The Course records would need to be strictly through specific Tournaments though, using set Tees... This would be limited to certain Tournaments obviously, but would become a base target for future records. The pin positions wouldn't necessarily be restricted, as it would obviously be better scored upon easy pins. However, the odd variation that occurs wouldn't upset too many records, as the Best Score would be reflected upon Easy Tee's whereas an average for individual scores would be across all pins.

Just an example of seeing something more personal related, when visiting the site.

Oh.... another suggestion..

The ability to click your own RESET button and keep track of your own Stats from a given point YOU yourself choose.

Thanks for your suggestions Ian.

Will ponder all of this after I return home from my holiday this Wednesday. :good:
