tour settings

Why must the tour settings be always so much wind? I'm sure the real pros that play each week don't always play in 20 or 30 mph winds!
be nice to see calm settings at times for a change .

Dewey,

The wind has actually been fairly calm over the past few weeks in many of the events.

I'm guessing the event you are particularly talking about is the PGA9 the STEORNABHAGH OPEN . I set this event, and I based the weather and ground conditions on the British island of Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides.

I am also the person responsible for the overall quality and concept behind all PGLS, along with a number of our moderators who give up their time to create the rounds and decide on the story they wish to tell in the set-up.

Take a look at the weather forecast for Stornaway, and bear in mind the part of the world it is located, in the Northern Altlantic Ocean.

I have to ask you how realistic you think it would be to have calm rounds alongside a major area of water in a part of the world that doesn't see the sort of lack of wind that a major landmass such as the USA often has. It is no accident that because of this, we create a much tougher breed of golfer who have the imagination to play in less than perfect conditions.

i for 1 appreciate the wind as a low amateur.
as makes you think about your shot more. rather than just whack it knowing it will reach fairway/green .need more concentration to hit that dingy thingy miss with the wind its going miles left/right lol.
so thx for all the efforts behind scenes .
but do understand dewmans point somewhat.

I think there is a fair spread of winds and appreciate that the guys setting try to set it up as If you were playing at the intended venue this week.

Also, Tough Stuff and wind equals.....Tough Stuff, lol, bring it on. When you miss a ding on windy, get your binoculars out...it's going a long way not the way you wanted !
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

For a calmer set of conditions this week, take a look at The Gary Player Country Club, South Africa (PGA18) and also Bellerive, Missouri (Hazard).

my only problem with using wind in tours at the minute is ................................IT DONT FRIGGIN WORK.................. the amount of times i have hit a club to allow for wind and it has had no effect. then on next hole have more or less same shot and have wind blow ball past hole or o.b. its very inconsistant
Some people are like slinkies. Not much good for anything but bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs!

Forgive my ignorance, but does the level effect the amount of deviation the wind causes?

So far as I'm aware, the wind is the same for all. I also think the degree of side slope deviation is also the same. It is purely the penalty for missing snap or tempo which alters level by level.

As a bit of additional information on the wind set-up, we not only use the wind strength from forecasts but also the direction it blows from as well. As well as this, we try to gauge how a particular course, bearing in mind its ground composition and the level of amenity infrastructure in place, will react to wind drying it out or rain making the ground softer.
