Tourney settings

Post by Makosha »

:hmmm:
Recently we seem to have been getting some crazy settings in certain tourneys almost as if little or no thought has gone into them e.g. gusty winds and hard 14 stimp greens which are on some chosen courses almost impossible to hold. We need to be tested on skill - NOT LUCK !!!

The latest one of having a "hazard" tourney on a par 3 course is just the craziest thing yet, just stupid.
Hazard is supposed to be a game of recovery shots and scrambles, not hitting greens from Tee positions as close as 35 metres.

What may I ask is it stupid?

It fits the same scoring model, find a large target (bunker), recover well and in some instances make birdie, in others par, and occasionally bogie or worse. Every shot is makeable, instead of the 'long-dogs' of Ammy and those with certain swing types having yards on others. The conditions were tough but fair, started slow and got faster, ground conditions matched the challenge, wind dropped on the final round to suit as well.

have to agree with Makosha, i play golf because i enjoy the game, but when we get soft fairways and hard greens with pins set to front, and you cant play short the ball ball stops, you cant play on to the green the ball just runs straight off to other side. then all enjoyment is taken away from you, i personally think just a little more understanding is to be given on setting up.i forget the course in question last week, but hitting a driver then having to hit a wood or 4 iron to a hard green on most par 4s was not a good idea.......................

Personally, I like all the variety and combinations thrown athe us. Would hate to have normal, normal, 12 every event. Soft fairways and firm greens with front pins just makes you think more. Play the shots in low to get a more forward first bounce on soft fairways, use high flight to firm greens for less forward movement...experiment. As for op...gusty winds are like real life, wind isn't constant outside, it gusts and moves direction a bit..bit of luck involved, but 14 stimp isn't about luck.
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

i always play 14 stimp hard hard when playing solo i dont mind variaty at all. but when your shooting +30s because your rehitting a shot to find away to get near or just onto a green, because everything you try stops dead on fw, i dont see point in participating. I have limited time on the game, and im finding lately most of my tour rounds are played practising shots, but maybe thats how its got to be. so maybe a few more weeks and im done with the game anyway, i have never in real life been able to card 1 single score card from a solo round, and thats my biggest gripe with this game, golf is not a solo player game and never has been, but this game has basically no community or community spirit at all
