Shot times

Post by Makosha »

Am UI the only one who thinks that the reason some players are so slow is that they are disabling the meter and taking practice swings, some players taking +/- 2 mins on each shot

General observations of some players here, its like pulling teeth at times with some players for what should be a relatively simple down the middle driver yet it takes well over a minute and makes me wonder why.
The only two thing I can think of is cancelling the shot meter and taking practice wings.
From now on I'm going to be setting a shot timer in my games to prevent more than one practice.
Simple 3 player games can take 90 mins for 9 holes

If anyone takes more than 10 seconds to shoot with standard settings they go on my black list and I don't play them again. I don't blame you for being annoyed.

This was rife at WGT where players used to slow down the meter using a cheat program.

I tried to do something about it and WGT were up in arms about that. Needless to say I didn't bother after that and as a result my website for WGT will close at the end of this year after 7 years.

You are right Miss M, some players are really, really slow. If you use a shot clock, well, you would be the first that I have seen.

I think the 60 secs is far too long anyway in 95% of shots.

Even Tour Pro's get penalised for slow play

We have had some comment about the darkness closing in on a three-ball group in the Open Championship which were on the course for three hours.

Please consider that we will occasionally drop in late starting rounds, but always seek to have you complete in fair conditions.

Occasionally you have to regard the loss of light as your own natural shot clock and encourage everyone to pick up the pace, or risk being left in the dark.

Bear in mind that if you played nine holes of an 18-hole event, then stopped to make yourself a meal and came back having had the game open, you are constantly seeing time advance in those situations.

I, too, hate games where one or more players seem to take an eternity over what seems to be a straightforward shot. So I commend you Mako on deciding to introduce a shot clock in your games - I may well follow your example and use a 30-second time limit. That should be adequate time to work out, and execute, a shot...
