Bag a game
Anyone who know me will know that I get the most enjoyment out of our game by playing along with another player, Wether it be in a Tourney or a Ladder game, and I know by experience that there are many others who feel the same. Having another player in the game slows me down so that I have time to think about my next shot, I enjoy the company and its more fun.
I am luckier than some, no family, retired from work, So i have time on my hands, I often have hour long slots that I can fill with a game, But so often I end up playing solo.
I have been giving this some thought and I have come up with something that would increase traffic on the sight and make it much easier to find someone to share a game with.
Its based on the method we use to create a game (CAG) but I call my idea BAG = Book a game.
Lets imagine i'm available to play at 2pm.
I would come online in the morning and open Start game in Bag.
So just like in Cag there would be drop down menu's, So first I would enter the time I want to play.
say 14.00 then I would choose what game I would like to play e.i PGA9 or PGLS9.
Then I would choose how many to play against (1or2or3) depending on time available.
Finally I would choose completed and the information would be displayed in a seperate Channel on M&G.
A player comes on line and checks if any games are schedules
sees my game listed so he opens up Bag and chooses JOIN.
from a drop down menu he chooses my name and completes.
so now in the Channel with my game displayed it shows that another player has joined.
others would also join up to the number I specified
One important button on both set ups, there needs to be a cancel button because unfortunately everyday life does get in the way at times lol.
The advantages for this system could improve how we run things. For instance in MWC and SSC instead of the usual scamble for places. Players could log in has host and others could join who they liked and at a set time. It could be used in future Ryder Cup style games and for many other things.
I have spoken to Mark about my Idea and realising that he has other projects that hes started it is something for the future. Which is why I've put it in the forum, to get members oppinions and any ideas they might have. Feed back is very much appreciated

Re: Bag a game
While I haven't played online yet your idea sounds like the old GameSpy days.
We at JN6 would group into a chat at Gamespy and anyone that wanted to start a round would hit the "Host" or "Create Game" button, this would
put an icon up just above the chat area saying waiting for game or something to that effect with the number of people waiting.
Anyone that wanted that round or just wanted to play could enter if it wasn't a locked game.
All you had to do then was click on the hosting game and enter and off you went once all were ready.
The area had two windows in one, one on top of the other, above would be the hosting of games and the lower was for chatting or for setting up a round.
That was a great setup, everyone knew what games and rounds people were hosting or wanting to play out. One nice thing about it was everyone knew
what time was best to catch someone in the chat.
Like now, early evening here in Ohio you would get most of the guys from the states while during the day here you could catch the over the seas fellas.
Good Stuff

Re: Bag a game
only 1 flaw with this paul. for it to work you need a community, and im sorry to say apart from the few regulars pgls is basically a game site where you go to get a game.. sometimes people just want a knockabout but to get that you have to try the general population lobby ..
Some people are like slinkies. Not much good for anything but bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs!

Re: Bag a game
If you say Les Pgls is not a community, what does it need to create a community. At times its very much a community, During the presidents cup competition there was a real feeling of communit and on MWC and SSC nights there is a community feeling, but not in between. That is why I have put forward this Idea

Re: Bag a game
paul....presidents cup and the 2 comp nights are pgls game and game nights, maybe we have misunderstood the meaning of community, i can log anytime of day and if there is someone in meet and greet the only game i can get is a tour or ladder match, nobody wants to play for fun.when pgls started there was plenty of us that got 4some,4balls skins ect going at evenings and weekends. Only time i get a friendly is with mike on a sunday morning, but the game is that bad now i seldom log, i have to force myself to log sat sun morning to partake in tour games...............maybe pgls should have a community club inside pgls just for people to look into for maybe a practise or friendly round. good luck with whatever you come up with

Re: Bag a game
Hi Les,
I think this is just the direction that Paul is pushing towards. There is always the option to set through createAgame to make make a Friendly Game as much as there is to play any of the ladders, and under Paul's proposal, tour rounds as well.
I too am hoping that Country Clubs make their own appearance within a new, upgraded front-end user interface on Perfect Golf 2, where the experience of exploring the gameplay offered by third-party providers such as PGLS and other tour sites is within the game itself and provides a direct link to the provider's own webpages and possibly custom user interface.
When any booking system for tee-times comes into effect, we would look at publicising it in such a way that we could have a link available within the game to make it a one-click jump from within the game to make use of the facility. I would also like it possible for any player who looks at the tournament areas on Perfect Golf to be able to click on the tour event and be taken directly to our site, in much the same way as you can (sometimes unwittingly) when clicking on the front page within the game.
If we can get such active links in the game, then we can really begin to get the separation between the game and the providers using it closed and provide a far more seamless experience for anyone who plays the game and seeks competitive or non-competitive rounds.

Re: Bag a game
Book a game isnt about any one type of game, Tourney, Ladder or friendly game. I have suggested this because so many time I log on only to find no one on line. But I have just missed Joe Bloggs who was also hoping for a game. I'd rather let players in advance know when I'm able to play, then if they want then can book to join me. Also when I pop online I could see other players who have booked a game and join them.
It used to happen at the golf club I was a member of. One player would pop down and book a tee ing of time for the next day , that way we would be sure of getting a game when we wanted it.
