Weekly Events - Pins
Weekly Events - Pins
Will all events now have 'Random' pins selected from now on? I ask because I've just finished playing Round 3 of this week's PGA18 tourney - and the pins were exactly the same as in Round 1. By selecting 'Random' pins I'm assuming this means we could now have the same pin placements in all 4 rounds?! BORING!
I know there was an earlier post about pin positions and the upshot was 'Random' pins being specified, but I can't find the thread and, therefore, the reasoning behind the decision.
Just having a moan really...

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
bob that can be helped the pins are numbered from 0 to however many have been installed in design
most courses have between 6 and 10 different pins to chose from so this does not have to happen as in the API
the pins have to be picked by the number.
i pretty much started this random pins thing with my pin placements on the caddyshack, and then HDH tourneys.
my reasoning was to have 6 easy,6med,and 6hard pins in each round. this is the time consuming part of setting tourneys.
sometime people dont always have the time to get on the course and look at all pins, the later could have been the issue here
seeing most have been pretty busy with holiday stuff.

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
Bob,
we as Moderators got the Order to Set our Tournaments all Time with Random Pins in the API. By setting the Pins manual it needs too much Time to do a Set Up for one single Round because you have to check then first all Pin Positions on every Hole.

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
Harald, your post brings up a question.
is the API now picking the pin placements, or are the tourney setters still
picking them?
will take Mark to answer that one.

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
Dave,
the Picking is done by the API. If we make that manual we also got the Problem like 2-3 Weeks ago in a Set up done by Andy in manual Way the Players told us the Tourney are not playable. So Mark gave the Order that we used now only Random Pins. That also make Sense because by make a manual Set Up of the Pins it needs Hours to set up four Rounds ;)

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
so are you telling me, im wasting my time, in doing research to set pins?
as for hours i guess if you are half blind. i do 4 rounds in a little more then an hour
all it takes is flying around the course with a controller looking and considering your setting you are using for each round
not hard nor that time consuming. the reason there was a problem a few weeks back was because no research had been done of the bad pins they where just picked out of the numbers by who ever set the tourney.
just wondering why in the API is the choice still given.

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
In my Opininon it's ok if you like to do that in manual Way - why not. We as Mods of PGLS got the Order to do it in the Random Way and normaly you have a very small chance to get in two Rounds the same Pin Set Up also you have different Greens. To make now a big discussion about is also not necassary because it's a very small issue that happens now this week in one Tournament.

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
not trying to make a big deal out of it just looking for some solid answers.
im just trying to find out how much of my time is being wasted.
so to get the APIs choice i just leave all the pin numbers at 0?

Re: Weekly Events - Pins
Every hole on each course has a number of pins you can set, numbered from 0 to whatever the course designer has set.
The setup for the courses chosen by admin for PGLS tournies allows them to choose a number for each of the holes which can be left at the default of 0. However without going through each hole in-game we have no way of knowing which number pin position is Easy, Medium or Hard.
These pin positions only apply to the API. If you play PG in Solo mode you only get the Easy, Medium or Hard options. In the API Easy, Medium and Hard are ignored in favour of the pin positions we can set. This is why I changed it to read "Random" but it is the same pin positions for everyone who plays it.
It may have been better to name it "Varied" thinking about it now, which I may just do
