NEW PRO-AM EVENT
NEW PRO-AM EVENT
I've always been of the opinion that it would be great to 'tie in' our PGLS scores in the PGA18 tourney with the REAL pro's scores in the parallel REAL event to create a PRO-AM scenario, but didn't think it would be possible.
However, with a bit of thought and perseverance, Ian (altaedm) and myself have come up with just that for this week's tourney at Quail Hollow. The way it works is as follows:
1. Only rounds 3 and 4 of our PGA18 tournament will count towards the Pro-Am event. If we include rounds 1 and 2 it would be certain that some PGLS players' REAL PRO partners would not make the cut in the REAL tourney and they would effectively be disqualified from the Pro-Am as a result - which we want to avoid.
2. When the REAL cut occurs (obviously after rounds 1 and 2 of the REAL event) we will know which REAL Pro's will be playing rounds 3 and 4. At that point, ALL PGLS players who have played at least one round of our PGA18 event will be paired with a REAL Pro (one of those who have made the REAL cut). PGLS players should be aware that there is a maximum number who can participate in the Pro-Am, and that number equates to the number of players who make the REAL cut. At Quail Hollow this week that number is 75. So be sure to play at least one PGA18 round EARLY to ensure your inclusion and avoid disappointment!!
3. Pairings are made at random. Any other method would be very time-consuming and 'messy' so we decided that random was the way to go - although that could change in future events.
4. I will post leaderboards at regular intervals so that you can see how you (and your partner) are performing. It might even encourage you to check how your partner is doing in the REAL event! Below is the current leaderboard. If you have played one round in PGA18 but haven't played Round 3 yet, open the Wells Fargo doc and see who your partner is...
I think that's about it. We'll see how it goes this week but, if it works well and everyone enjoys the format and extra challenge, it could become a regular weekly feature...

Re: NEW PRO-AM EVENT
Nice idea gents, might have to change my order of play to make sure I have played pga18 in time. Hope it goes well.
On that note, if there aren't enough PGLS players to cover all the Pros who make the cut, will those Pros be allocated a number and as PGLS players fill the slots, they get allocated the free players?
If they are 50 PGLS players and 75 Pros for Round 3, the 50 PGLS players get paired with the best 50 Pros as reward for playing early and the next 25 PGLS players get a randomly allocated Pro from the leftover players? Just a thought.

The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.
Play well and enjoy your game everyone!

Re: NEW PRO-AM EVENT
Correct Andy - and that's exactly what has happened this week. It's not a problem at all, and will probably happen most weeks!if there aren't enough PGLS players to cover all the Pros who make the cut, will those Pros be allocated a number and as PGLS players fill the slots, they get allocated the free players?
That's a possibility, but we want to avoid complications if we can. So at this point in time it will remain just a thought! If they are 50 PGLS players and 75 Pros for Round 3, the 50 PGLS players get paired with the best 50 Pros as reward for playing early and the next 25 PGLS players get a randomly allocated Pro from the leftover players? I agree with Bob here keep it simple its a bit of fun, remember some of us in the uk are at a slight disadvantage already, as tour starts at midnight when a lot of us are already in the land of nod for work, then we dont get chance to play until after work, in my case thats a full 18+ hours after the event begins, all the slots could be taken by then.
Good idea Bob and Ian adds a bit of fun to the tour.

Yes, for the time being at least, this Pro-Am is still very much in its' infancy, we'll just see how it goes and how popular it becomes...I agree with Bob here keep it simple its a bit of fun
Here's the bang up-to-date leaderboard - and note that there are now only 7 Pro's still available!!
