Undermining penalty system

Post by NIBNOB »

We all know about the bugs and faults in this game, its NOT perfect.......

Look after your ball.....if you go for risky shots then you run the risk of getting a penalty but you also mite get lucky and make that shot..Risk/Reward is your choice

Having penalty strokes removed favours the players who take more risks....they get the reward when it the shot comes off AND if they get no post screen and get penalty removed....

If a player takes a risky shot and lands in an area which leads to a penalty shot, most of the time it's because it should be a penalty and in a hazard. Asking for shots to be removed if you landed in a hazard area and got no continue is not playing in the spirit of the game.

If the shot landed "in play" and no continue, then fair enough.

Or have I misread the opening post?
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

start demanding video clips and make determinations from those.
some folks may abuse the system without video clips.

NIB, I've pared down your full quote to what I want to address.

Context is everything. If the player is playing solo, or part of a multiplayer pair playing alt shot I 100% agree with all of the above comments. Risk vs. reward. :good:

If they're playing greensomes or scramble then there are other things to consider. If the first person hits to a hazard with no "continue", the second should be given a chance to hit (common sense). If the first person hits to a safe lie, then the second hits OB with no "continue" common sense lets you continue with the first shot. PG doesn't always follow common sense.

When asking Mark to remove a restart penalty, one should have to provide enough evidence to do so. He should not have to make a judgement as to weather you are an honest person to trust on word (even though I think 99% of our members can be trusted on word). I have to admit I've been guilty of asking for a penalty removal on just my word. Maybe we should each have to provide a bit more evidence.

my partner and myself just got caught up with a penalty stroke as John spoke about in the above quote.
we will eat it. but it is just to bad that PP got halfway done with this game and never finished it to make it play right.
just think how much better this game would have been if they just would have finished it.

I'm not one to hit past twelve clock on the meter and rarely get penalized. When playing Pair9 tourney (scramble) one of us will take a hard swing because his partner put their ball in the fairway. Ball goes OB, post shot screen doesn't come up, have to leave the game and resume. That will give you a penalty stroke.
If it happens to you for any reason message Mark and explain in detail what happened, he will take care of it. If you are 30 strokes behind the leader and you are on the last round, I wouldn't worry about having it corrected, as long as the game will let you continue.

Just my 2cents
If it goes left, its a hook. If it goes right, its a slice. If it goes straight, its a miracle!

I dont make the rules here but if i did i would make all penalty's stand, non removed.......i believe the penalty system performs a vital task and shouldnt be undermined by asking for shots back.....i know not all players will agree with this but its what i think.......

In real life golf have you ever lost your favourite ball when it just creeps into the rough?.....not getting post screen is the PG equivalent of that.......RUB OF THE GREEN.......

To John's scramble question.......LOOK AFTER YOUR BALL........both players.........yes it is fun sometimes to go for the crazy shot(i done this many times, ask Perc) but knowing what we all know this games broke in so many unfixable places....why risk it?.......and if you still go for it, except the consequences.....

Just my opinion

Nib - would agree with you if the penalty was non-negotiable for every one. The best rule is one that pisses everyone off equally. :cheesy:
