Hi All
Today sees the start of 4th season of PG Classics. Back in 2017 I approached Mark with a suggestion for a new tournament. The suggestion was for a competition using only real courses including Pay to Play courses. Because the competition was to use Pay to Play courses it would rule it out of being a propure PGLS tournament where Merrit points were used because because it would deny a player the right to join it if he didnt purchase the corresponding course. Since then all Pay to Play courses are free to all (except Troom and Royal Birkdale). It was decided that the tournament would also be played by all players having a handicap and system of handicapping was set out.
It was hoped that the handicap would provide a level playing field giving the not so skillful the opportunity to be equal with the top players. The handicap is worked out by removing the worst games and the best games over a period and any new players must enter a seperate scoreboard whist being assessed for his handicap a bit like the Q School principle.
The first PG Classic commenced in Jan 2018 (it was decided to run it over 14 days because there were many Tours running weekly and we wanted to give players extra time to complete. PG Classic as run for 3 seasons, not every player plays, It is optional and does not effect your standings for merrit points. It has been successful and I'm delighted to see some of the top players battling on despite having a handicapp that means they have to give up to the course many shots and It is a credit to them that many can still show very good score despite thier handicap.
What concerns me is the odd player that records over the top scores to build up a false handicapp. Mark as set a limit to what should be reasonable to score for the skill level and handicap they display, anyone scoring below this limit will be move into the seperate area whilst thier handicap is being re assessed and if we have such a player who is cheating (and thats what it is) I will be pressing for that player to be seperated from the main body until he sees the error of his ways..
Have fun enjoy the game (I have already picked some of the greatest real courses) and be lucky

Re: New Year of PG Classics 2021
Hello Seasider47,
As a newbe ( 8 rounds- 2 PG Classic tourneys ) I want to thank you for your time and efforts. I'm considering playing in the PGA 18 weekly tournaments in the New Year as well as continuing to play the PG Classics. Really struggling at Pro level but I'm sure that will sort itself out in the next several weeks of play. Water does seek its own level so to speak. Happy New Year. Cheers. dirt2turf
