I've decided to hold off for a while as I have read there are still a few bugs to be sorted out with Windows 11 itself and also with my AMD graphics drivers. I have run the compatibility program and it has given me the ok to run Windows 11 but I prefer to wait a little while longer.

If it would only be TPM 2.0 you could try this: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/m ... quirement/

I installed it couple of days ago. Had to re-verify PG local files, it uploaded 4, and worked fine after that (and after a reboot). Works OK with the other two (racing) games I play regularly. That said, apart from rounded edges to windows, has it made any tangible difference? Dunno.

Mark,

I think you will find that DirectX needs some extra files that some games require ...

I am dual booting W10 and W11. First off. Older games will require downloading older DirectX versions (as Mark pointed out above).

Here's the gripe about Windows 11 globally. The Taskbar is missing ALL the best features of Windows.
1. No Quick Launch Area setup
2. Cannot drag and drop programs to pin to the Taskbar
3. There are no lables on the minimized programs
4. The Taskbar cannot be moved to the side or top of the screen
5. There is no full featured Right-Click Context Menu on the Taskbar
6. Cannot unlock or lock Taskbar
7. Cannot resize Icons or make the Taskbar smaller
8. Cannot have shortcuts to files because there is no Quick Launch Area
9. No Action Center on the right side of the Taskbar

There are 3rd party programs that allow some of the above to work again but fall short of our experiences with W7 and W10. There shouldn't be a need for third party programs to allow us to have a proper Taskbar. Microsoft devs should be taking care of this from all the feedback they have received about the Taskbar. (Hopefully this will happen in the first Major Update in Early 2022)

Feel free to add your experience so far on the Taskbar. If you hear about any upcoming changes from Microsoft Feedback or their Questions and Answers page, please post the links.

IMHO, Windows 10 is (full featured) compared to this attempt (again) by Microsoft to make a simpler operating system. There is no compelling reason to upgrade to Windows 11. However, if you do not use the Taskbar other than pinning programs then you will be happy with the OS.

Note: W11 ATM is not faster than W10. It will appear that way before you install your programs. However, once you have a dozen or so large programs installed W11 will perform the same as W10.

Solid State Drive: No reason to upgrade to Windows 11 if you are still using a Hard Drive. My suggestion to anyone with an older motherboard with a decent CPU and GPU is to clone your HDD to a new SATA III SSD (they cheap these days). All you need is Macrium Free or EaseUS Free to do the cloning.

without the taskbar, no go for me till they include it
I use it quite a bit and as crusher stated you should not need an outside program
so looks like I will be waiting till the update to see if it is then included.
thanks for the heads up here on that.
