Pair-ups

Post by davefv92c »

I have noticed the count on teams has gotten quite a bit smaller.
to be honest we need to figure out a way to bring the count up it is one of the best tourneys we have.
I think it might help if we had a dedicated forum for people to use to get together and build teams. I know I have used the forums before to find a partner but it is not that easy to find one. I am not a very reserved person so I have never had a problem PMing other players to find a partner, but I believe others may be that is why I think a dedicated forum for this might be a good place to start to build up the count. also since the tour will be done for the year after this month and there will be a month with less to play it may be a good time to put up a test pair up 72 hole tourney to see if it would draw enough teams to make it viable to have it every week or since it would be a 72 hole tourney maybe let it run for 2 weeks or even the whole month so all would have plenty of time to get the rounds in. maybe all you admins could get together in your admin forum and chat about this.
if there is an issue of someone to set up this tourney just let me know and I will come back aboard and take care of it.

would be great to get some more input from the players and the admins on this.
we could call the new forum a team-building forum, I would almost bet there are others who would like to get in on the pair-ups
if we gave the members a dedicated place to post for partners.

Dave,

PGLS is considering going to 18 holes for the Division Pairs, starting Jan 1, 2022.
Would like some feedback here: viewtopic.php?t=7173

well, I am all for this as I was the one that started the thread and the Jan 1st idea is a good one.
be great to get some of the other members in here to talk about it. maybe if Mark could send a full membership message out and point people in this direction we could get some more input. also on the other thread to get them to look at them both.

I have no objections to changing either or both of the PairUp tournies.

However my concern is by making them 18 holes will that make less teams play due to time constraints. :hmmm:

I agree some feedback from the players in both PairUp formats is most welcome on the possible change.

Each of the tournies does have it's own forum ...

Just a thought here, but what if you were to remove a tourney for the sake of time management like say "Tough Stuff", (it has a low turnout), and by far the worst tourney since Biden becoming President lol.... All joking aside, how about this, create a pair-up tourney such as HAZARD, SKILLS, or even STABLEFORD? It'll maintain interest with current players paired-up, and may motivate others to find someone compatible with similar interests within the game.
I agree with Dave, when it comes to meeting other players and becoming partners, it's not easy finding a partner, that is dedicated week after week and staying committed to the game. Most of us are very fortunate to be paired up with others for a long period of time and get to learn their strengths and weaknesses. Or better yet, extend the tourney to a full month, and allow enough time to finish.

I agree with you about crap canning the tough stuff tourney I have been watching the numbers there and they are very low and looks to be a waste of time this last week only 4 people compleated that tourney that is a shame the numbers there have gotten so low and I blame the makers of the game for that due to the wind it is so random at the higher settings it is imposable to really learn so once people try it and figure out there is just no way to really figure it out that people stop wasting their time with it, I am really surprised it has lasted this long. I like your idea of using another MOP other than alt shot great idea. thanks for the input WTF. I also still think a forum up top maybe right under this one would help in people finding partners. most who come here to read in the forums are not going to go through all these forums as it would be a big waste of time for most. if you would put a team builders forum where people would see it right away I believe it would get the attn that is needed to boost these pair up counts.

thanks much Mark if it does not help to get us some more teams

Seems, to me, the issue with pairs is to get a partner you can rely on long term. We have about 8 to 10 pair groups that have been together a long time. In my case CharlieB and I have been playing together over 20 years. But others have struggled to keep partners like SJude, Dave, Carl Lapin, Cubbies, JMK59 and Joe Bradley. I have helped set up some pairs that only lasted a few weeks. The pairs we do have are very dedicated and play weekly hardly ever missing a game. No easy answer here.

Alan is so right with what he is saying here. I played with cubbs before and we won it twice
then I went on to flop7wood which I think we played together for a year and a half or so
and we ended up having an issue with a PM he sent to old croc at Caddyshack about how I was setting the tourneys over there
instead of just discussing his issue directly with me after I had told him I was posting the tourneys over there.
so I got back together with cubbs which I believe now we will be a long-lasting team at least I hope so as I have a lot of fun with him as a partner and
the voice chat is great which makes it a good social experience. so as Alan says finding a partner you get along good with may take going through a few partners but it is well worth it when you do find that right partner. it is also a great way to learn the tricks of the game to hear how other people figure their shots.
