PGA 18 penalty strokes not warranted

Post by SandBlaster101 »

I was playing round 4 of the PGA 18 at Pebble on hole number 9 when I teed off and my computer froze. I could not get back into the game not without having to exit completely and resuming. When I resumed the first time the swing meter was missing. I exited again and this time it came back and I finished the hole with a par. When I finished the round I noticed I had been assessed 2 penalty strokes. I believe this was of not fault of mine and that I should not be assessed these penalties.

Hi Sandblaster,

The problem we have with penalty strokes is that there is never a sure-fire way of telling if a computer has crashed, or if a swing which ended up with a bad result has been discarded by closing the game down.

Do you have regular crashes within the game, or is this a one-off which is very rare? If it is a regular occurrence, and possibly happening at critical times whilst you are using your computer for critical tasks, then it is a sign of something seriously wrong and you should get an IT professional to look at it urgently, in case you lose vital data.

We consider the computer to be as much part of your golf equipment as the clubs you have in your virtual golfbag, and so we have to disregard instances where there have been crashes, simply because we cannot have evidence of what happened, and because by applying the penalty in an even-handed way means you will not lose strokes to a player who may claim the same thing, but who in fact is using what is an exploitable aspect of the game.

What I can do is to remove the penalty stroke you incurred for the loss of swing meter. It should not be happening, but I know if you are a left-handed golfer, it can happen. If you find you have not got a swing meter, closing the game down as long as you do not have the post-shot screen open will never give you a penalty. Also, using the cursor keys to move may bring back the meter, or indeed just aiming. Also, try turning Pause Render on Swing on and off. Details of this bug and remedies are in the thread posted below.

As you are obviously unaware in this instance, I will remove one of the two penalty strokes. However, the information is out there on the developers forum if you find this to be a frequent problem, and it is best to keep up with any information on how to resolve issues in the game, as we know it continues to have bugs which leave us no option but to work around when trying to run or compete in a tournament environment.

Player assessed one penalty stroke, down from two.

Penalty strokes cannot be removed, but scores are adjusted to reflect the corrected stroke total.

Please explain to me how you cannot prove bogus penalty stroke? I CAN 100% with a video of it! I also do not understand this new arbitrary system, You state you cannot remove the stroke and yet you do remove one? If you don't want to correct score i understand, that would be a pain in the ass, but don't tell me things that are not true! I just got YET ANOTHER pen stroke because of menu issues. Game broke costs Stroke, that it all the other blah blah is just that, get real.

What I mean by this is the total contained in the Penalty Stroke box on your scorecard is not removed. That stays, so that it is a transparent view of where a Penalty Stroke was included. We cannot alter that from the scorecard. What we can do instead is change the overall score.

Clear enough?

Broke game? Address your complaints to the developer. If you have a video which you feel shows your issue then by all means post it here. However, be prepared for the person who is trying to administer a fair and equal tournament to say that bad key presses and menu choices fall to the resposibility for the player involved.
