Depends on the tournament Mark...Stableford, looks like you may have beaten your -10 handicap? is that a net -29 (effectively)??

All just relative to how you score against others, but I repeat...the newer handicaps reflect your potential, it is the AVERAGE of your best 12 from last 24 not just the best score. You obviously can score it, because it's your average so you must have shot lower probably 6 times at least ;) .

Good job scores are adjusted for easier/harder events mind, otherwise that -10 might become -14 and oh the commotion from some others....lol.
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

I enjoy Handicap play. I have never had a big handicap, for the last 6 months my handicap has remained between +4 and +2 only once has it reached +5. I am playing to my ability, I frequently miss snap but I seem to be able to scramble out of trouble frequently. its my putting thatkeeps me scoring arround par on each hole instead of birdies. But the odd shots advantage I do get I try to take advantage of to enable me to beat other players with similar ability to me, Handicaps are used in sport to create a lvl playing field . the ideal leaderboard should show just a handfull of shots ist and last but whilst players score -30 or more at the top of the LB it is obvious somethings wrong, Andy is to is credit trying to mix it about to get the correct formular, I'll grant that it wont seem much fun with a handicap of + 8 -10 but what else can we do to bring the scores down. What I am concerned more with are the players who purposely guard there handicap by playing really bad. Recently a player made 58 putts in one round. thats not on and must be eliminated,

I'm not going to be up there with such as Affo, Step or Nibnob but accasionally I can rise above myself and score reasonably well, and that makes it fun. So althought I would like to see players of all ability playing PG Classic at this point in time I cant see it happening but there are still many who enjoy the tour, especially the opportunity to play Pay to Play courses. so I hope the Tour continues giving pleasure

I usually don't comment on these type of discussions, because i get tired of people telling me i'm often wrong, but all handicap systems i have ever played under was designed to level the playing field, not tip it in either direction... What i would like my handicap to reflect would be an average of
all my last 24 games with the Best and Worst single game thrown out. If I am rated only on my best then no need to play!

Just ran the events just finished 28th August as handicap events using the official handicaps just to see. Here is the top 25 and ties of what would have been the Nett leaderboard:

Stableford:

Code: Select all

26 ranabear1
19 NIBNOB
18 lilpoison
18 terbal
18 LOBKING
18 johannor1
18 LES1959
18 Golferdee
17 Milehigh
17 bbbuckshot1
17 jim170175
17 kennetharry
16 TBone
16 RickW
16 roande47
16 BadRobot65
16 boss302-1969
15 RandyG
15 Hilton
15 skip67
15 bigned56
14 cubbies645
14 charlieb
14 Just Jolly
13 Affo
13 bpatrick4489
13 davefv92c
13 boxmaker111
13 POGO
13 MrEd03
So this is points scored in relation to expected...it was an easy course this week, every player who finished the 4 rounds scored under their handicap, so scored more points than expected, but pretty close apart from the winner (think his handicap is coming down this week, lol) but good to see players with big minus handicaps could compete (NIBNOB, Affo, cubbies, -10,-11,-8 respectively)
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Here's the PGA9 top 25 plus ties:

Code: Select all

-10 scoops100
-6 skip67
-4 LinksPro
-4 boxmaker111
-4 Flyer01
-3 bobfletch
-3 charlie
-3 briarfox62
-3 davidgpedersen
-2 davefv92c
-2 stevemel
-1 terbal
0 Affo
0 BOWHUNTER615
0 Kimmer1947
0 johannor1
1 charlieb
1 BlackCat0315
1 RickW
1 kennetharry
1 rob1312
2 ollybobbles
2 Stevemaccal
2 freddy
3 Riddler
3 JoeBradley
3 bpatrick4489
3 Topflight
3 Cestrian
3 kypran
3 Just Jolly
3 mcantre
Again, a couple of players played very well, but apart from that, a tight leaderboard and high minus handicappers in the mix and some of those who thought their handicap was harsh appearing in the shot under handicap section!

and the PGA18, where you would expect a larger spread:

Code: Select all

-12 Just Jolly
-8 Golferdee
-6 Lefty48
-5 Reynhardt_p2
-5 skip67
-5 johannor1
-4 bbbuckshot1
-4 alanr54nc
-1 TBone
-1 roande47
-1 boxmaker111
0 Coach098
1 Hilton
2 bobfletch
2 Sikkum
2 Topflight
2 arsam
3 Affo
3 NIBNOB
3 fubzee
3 charlieb
3 Flyer01
4 Often Rong
4 bpatrick4489
4 BoomBoom
A 16 shot spread for the top 25 as opposed to a 29 spread on the gross leaderboard.

Anyways, just some tables to show that, even though all handicaps dropped by a few shots, play well and you still hit under par and can challenge for nett leaderboard, no matter how low your handicap is...now where is Mark...

Wheres he incentive to play well? only to have to play even better next time....struggling to make even par(like in classic this week) gives me zero chance of winning....i dont just want to compete against someone at my level i want to compete against everyone.....put a limit on handicap events -4 +4 seems fair...lets just try this and see how close the field is.....every player should have a chance of winning imho....I see the work you put into this Andy but most of i dont understand.....
