The vote arose because under the old points system, it was basically another strokeplay. The points system offered for the poll was used in the PGA, the majority voted for it and now we have it.

I voted for the change because I thought it added something to the risk/reward shots, do you go for the eagle with a possible bogey or worse, or play safe?
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

I disagree. What I see here is the rich getting richer. The top players never have a bogey, so the risk reward has no affect on them. They also make way more birdies and eagles than us ordinary players, so they will always get more points, while never having a minus. The old way was a chance for regular players to at least feel like they were competing on a level playing field.

Yep, great idea. Give the really good players even more points, and penalize those who now have no chance of competing with them. Because a minus (that they will never have) is a disaster for a regular player under this format. Its virtually impossible to overcome without an eagle or string of birdies, which just doesn't happen for us.

When playing real golf I always looked upon a stableford as a fun game. Has an 18 handicap player with my handicapp there was always the opportunity to score the odd extra point that gave mea bit of a leveridge. I just wonder if local golf courses have gone over to this system. under the old system in PG I would be lucky to score 19 pts per round (that means I would have had one extra ponint from the round. but at least I made 19. Under this system I would be holding 2 points but one slip up and It would be nil. Luckily not a probloem for me because I rarely get the time to play Stableford as well as other tours. But feel sorry for others that do Enjoy the tour but are not high flyers. No problem because the majority did vote for it. but not for me

Quite understand both points, but it was just another strokeplay event in essence under the old points format.

The question was, why? That a majority voted on it doesn't answer the question. Why did you vote for it? If it was all relative, why change it and produce all of this confusion?
I voted for it because i like to play the correct system. PGLS and PG have always tried to make this game as close to the real game as possible and this system is what is used in most golf clubs around the world. Did that answer your question? Im not sure how it can be confusing? To be honest its not my place to answer question im not a mod.

I have to agree with flopwood here. I used to like Stableford but don't think I'll be playing anymore. I shot +6 the first round and +1 the second. Looked at the leaderboard and I'm already 19 points away. I couldn't make those up in three more rounds and he still has two more to play (which he shot another +21). Cya.
If it goes left, its a hook. If it goes right, its a slice. If it goes straight, its a miracle!

All the negativity!

LinksPro, in Dec you were the 5th best scoring player on the site, quite capable of shooting a -6 for 9 holes which if all birdies is 12 points...if there's an eagle slipped in with no mistakes, points can be gained quickly.

I to am also rethinking my participation in this tourney as catching the leaders is just not in it for me any longer.
rather then the system we went to I would have liked to see something like riddler posted in another discussion about the points.

copy and paste of riddler's comments and ideas.

I am voting leave as it is but would like to suggest a couple of small additions. Would like 1 point added for putts made over 25ft and chips made over 30ft to change things up a little. The other options seem to add too many points. My suggestion would just add a point here and there that could make a difference when point totals are close which happens a lot minus Affo scores.
