NEW - The Divisions

Post by Affo »

Hi all, in case you don't read your pms.

Something new for you all to play.

Starting 1st March 2019

I have taken the most active players over the month of February (by number of rounds posted in PGA9, PGA18, Stableford and the Open - a possible 52 rounds) and using my Power Rankings, placed those players into Divisions based on their Score Power rating for the month of February. If you are not initially allocated a Division, you can still take part, just play the rounds when they are open and you will be added to a Feeder league which will increase in size as new players join.

The Divisions is a league structure with automatic promotion and relegation with 4 up and 4 down after a Season is completed. Each Season takes place over a Calendar month.

What do you have to do?

Simply play ONE 9 hole round over a 5 day period with 5 rounds during a month. Each round has a rest day afterwards (ok, a closedown day). Your score for each round will be subtracted from 50 (this is so the total points score can be sorted large to small) so a round of 30 will get you 20pts and a round of 36 gets you 14pts. There will not be any minus scores, so any rounds of 49 and will receive 1pt for taking part. This way a player playing every week will rank higher than someone who doesn't play at all. Each rounds' points score is added together to give you a month total (see Midweek Challenge for sort of layout). The table will then be sorted highest to lowest on Total Points and promotions and relegations will happen at month end shutdown.

EDIT - in the event of tied points at the month end, the number of birdies in the month will determine position with more birdies being better.

Hopefully, this will give you something else to play for if your scores aren't challenging the top of the leaderboard, you are effectively playing 14 others in your league and with it being 9 holes, the scores should be close. Can you make it up into the top Leagues or nail that vital 5th round to stave off relegation??

Any questions, please feel free to post

Cheers

Andy
The scores may be unrealistic, or even a joke but heyho, that's what we got.

Play well and enjoy your game everyone! :drinks:

btw, not a game for snowflakes.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to participate in the new event, some good close tables there and I hope it gives everyone more of a purpose to play as you are against people similar in ability. Yes, there will be some that maybe get promoted and then get a Tier promotion too, but that is life and just like a smaller team stepping up into a top flight, survive that first season and you can then establish yourself in the higher Division.

Also, Order of Merit?? (only applicable to those who like these sorts of things, if not your cup of tea, you can stop reading now).

At the end of the month, you will get the number of points you have totalled during the 5 Periods, plus in the top 5 leagues (as long as you have posted at least one score) you will get a bonus for where you finished.

15th in Division 5 would get 1, through to top of Division 1 getting 75 with no penalties for Tier level.

On top of this, if you play in the GOLD or SILVER cup, you will get points based on the round reached, so qualifying for them will gain more points.

1st round losers get - GOLD 5 SILVER 3
2nd round losers gets GOLD 10 SILVER 6
Quarter Final losers gets - GOLD 20 SILVER 12
Semi Final losers gets - GOLD 40 SILVER 24
Runner Ups gets - GOLD 60 SILVER 36
Winner gets - GOLD 80 SILVER 48

This will all start with April jus for some more fun :) .

"but those already in the top Divisions have an unfair advantage" I hear you cry. Maybe, but they are there on merit for lower scoring and for participation in PGLS events over the past months and sadly not everyone can start in the top Divisions.

and newcomers to PGLS or oldtimers, if you're wandering if you can join in at anytime, you can, just find the event in your Public tab and play.

A reminder, if your Tier level has changed, you need to change your player in game for your round to count. You will receive a message telling you whether your round has recorded or not.

To all the new folks, you can if you wish just join in and post a score at any time, not a closed shop event.

From January 2021 the tie breakers will include albatrosses and double bogeys + to practically make it impossible to get players tied with each other at the end of the month regarding promotion and relegation. :good:
