Can't play properly due stuttering
Hello all!
I'm battling nasty stuttering in PG, from the start. I bought it couple of weeks ago, and still didn't fixed it. The amount of stuttering depends on a course it seems.
I've tried many things, from playing with in-game options, to nvidia control panel. Nothing works. Even bringing all course details sliders to 0 doesn't fix it. Instead, it brings issues as I can't see the trees etc.
So, in short, when I use vsync, stuttering is really frustrating, as it happens even during 3-click phase, so I usually miss the 3rd click, resulting in out of bounds in worst cases. With vsync off, except my GPU is screaming because the usage is 95% and above, and my 3090 eats over 350 watts of power, the stuttering a bit less pronounced, but it's still there, and still happen during 3-click phase.
I was on edge to ask Steam for a refund, but I was already at 4 hours gameplay time, so didn't even tried to contact them.
Also, I've applied even PGLS unofficial patch, that helped a bit on some courses, but on the last PGA 9 round it was even worse than before.
Stuttering is really noticeable in the video I've recorded, from 4:00 onward:

If anyone have any ideas how to fix the stuttering, I appreciate it!

Re: Can't play properly due stuttering
I've had problems with the stuttering on some of the courses mostly its because of low frame rates or bad internet connection. check your ping when it gets bad, as far as how to correct it not sure, this game is getting old and not being updated while Steam gets update all the time not sure if thats the cause.

I am not a computer expert, but the game is quite old now and should run on a gaming computer with a decent graphics card. Without knowing your hardware it is impossible to tell the reason of your issues. The game itself is not the problem for sure.

I had similar problems as yourself . What I had to do was sacrifice the better detailed graphics and set the game to these settings . Some courses are still hit and miss but the game is at least better to play .
Here is a screenshot of my settings .

Re: Can't play properly due stuttering
Hi all,
I forgot to mention my system: 12900k + RTX 3090, 32GB of RAM at 3600mhz, all games running from M2 drive.
It can push other newest golf titles (PGA TOUR 2K23 and EA PGA Tour), as well other games and Microsoft Flight Sim included, locked at 60fps, without a single stutter. I use 1440p monitor, so it's not even 1080p. I only have issues in Perfect Golf. So fps is way above 60fps, so I decided initially to enable vsync, but due to bad stuttering and latency, I'm playing now with vsync off. Not a lot better regarding stuttering, but I'm more precise with 3-click because there is no latency.
But, as others are mentioned, stutter varies from course to course. In some it's barely a thing, in others stuttering is so bad, that I end missing 3-click timing in few shots, ball even going out of bounds. Stutter literally happens half a second before a third click, so it's logical I miss the timing a lot.
So, it's certainly not my system, and I hope not my internet (1000mbit down/500mbit up).
I tried also to play with details, and literally deactivated everything and pulled all the LOD sliders to the left. All courses were bare empty, but stuttering was still there, in the same amount as with high details.

Re: Can't play properly due stuttering
Everyone gets stuttering from time to time, lots of possible reasons like steam, internet, pc reboot, in game settings and poorly optimised courses etc....
But you getting stutters all the time shouldnt....
i bought a new laptop recently, and it almost went back because of constant stuttering i was getting only on pg.....i tried serveral things, here are a few..... in window power settings make sure you have best performance set..... in control panel, power, advanvce setting have maxium processing set to 100% in nvidia 3d setting find perfect golf and set the max frame rate to what ever your monitor does mine is 165Hz if you a program like predsence then choose more preformance when playing pg.....
i also update my graphics card all the time(without nvidia experience) and verify files in steam.... and these are my in game setting........i still keep them low even with this pc....
hope this helps

Re: Can't play properly due stuttering
Thank you all for your input.
I can now confirm that awful stuttering was due to my monitor. Well, at least some kind of clash with my monitor non-standard refresh rate and Perfect Golf. My monitor's native refresh rate is 75hz. I switched to 60hz long ago, to be able to play more demanding games at 60fps locked (with vsync on), and to lower GPU usage. 15fps difference is not a small hit on a GPU.
In short, as soon as I switched back to 75hz, Perfect Golf is smooth, almost perfectly smooth. There is a stutter here and there, but mostly after I hit the ball. During swings and 3-click process is very smooth. I can also confirm that some other games, like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is smoother at 75hz.

If you are ok with editing your registry do the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvlddmkm\FTS enableGR535 to 0
In the Nvidia control panel under 3D settings change the following .
Select Image Sharpening
In the right hand box Set..Sharpen to 1.00
then...Ignore Film grain to 0.50
Then click on SAVE in the Nvidia control panel
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvlddmkm\FTS enableGR535 to 0

Any info what that registry tweak do specifically?trevjor wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 5:40 pm If you are ok with editing your registry do the following

And why should image sharpening make the FPS in the game smoother?

Re: Can't play properly due stuttering
The reg tweak opens the option in the Nvidia control panel to use the Image sharpening which will much improve the picture quality.
My own opinion is I think it is time for a new monitor as 75 htz is low for a game. But each to there own.
