This is defenitely a mouse problem happened to me with two mouse. What happens is there is a small V shaped piece of metal but is fixed in the mouse with the point facing up. Wear and tear causes this to slacken when you push down to use the mouse button causing a double click now and then

I used to suffer this problem now and again with a logitech mouse I'd had for 3/4 years and what it turned out to be is there is a little piece of metal shaped in a V upside down in the logitech mouse so when you click it hits the top of the V and when that has seen a lot of use the V flattens out ...

When we all played at WireLS we used to have real life golfing weekends the first one we ever had Roy & Mike Higgi were there and IanD had brought a laptop with him. We fired up the laptop and had a game of links while waiting for our tee off times Mike Higgi casually scored -9 over 9 holes.
